photobucket -

either click on or move the cursor over the picture that you want to post.

then when the box appears that has all the different links in it, click on, and highlight the box that has IMG next to it.

once its highlighted, right click and "copy"

then move back over here, right click, and "paste".

thats it. thats what i use too is photobucket.

nice truck. how do you like the canbak?? i thought of getting one before i got the shell. i was just worried about someone cutting thru it. now i use a couple of tool boxes bolted to the bed and padlocked.

Thanks but doesn't compare to yours and some of the epic trips you take. But I'm starting - going to Moab in March.

I like the top but I'd never secure anything back there for the obvious reasons - just unsnap the sides and you have complete access unless you took the same precautions you described and bolted down a lockable tool box. My DD is a Prius now, so the Tacoma gets duty on the weekends and trips.

Question for you - I see you are running a Ham radio - your thoughts? I'm thinking about the same in the near future.

yeah this is my budget build. i built the bumpers and light hoop out of scrap metal, and the snorkel out of scrap...all leftovers from work. cheap but effective.

i like the ham radio. i have 3 different frequencies to choose from, and CB. here in socal, we have a lot of repeaters to choose from so most places i work i can find a repeater to talk on during my commute. on the trail i dont use it as much because most people have cb's. i actually need to revamp my antennaes. my transmit and receive are not what they used to be.

Stock(ish) But a start

Hoping to have ARB bumper and some sliders next week.

So far all it has is Mall terrains and the camper top. Gone camping a few times but no major wheeling involved. Hoping to take a trip out west to explore next year.

Well, here's mine. I haven't got to go on any real long trips yet due to work and my wife in college. BUT she grads in May this year (09) and i'm gonna hopefully take a few months or year off work for some traveling!!

I bought a nice digital camera finally a while back after going through one and not being able to take pics while we were out goofing off on some of my friends trails. Anyways, here's mine after snorkel install looking all shinny in the parking lot...

Here was my total trail rig up until this summer when i decided to sale and make my Tacoma the new trail rig...

nice fj. the important part is that it gets where you want to go...not how built up it is.

Alaska rocks! This time im moving up there for a while, but im driving all the way there from here in GA instead of flying and shipping my truck. If you get a chance hit up Fairbanks and Bettles, an Denali.

well, you need a passport, and your rig definitely looks good to go, minus a VHF. you are more than welcome to roll down there with us. we are TTR LLC. and YOLO Racing. if you want details ie; logistics, average cost(to drive or just ride), or anything just PM me.

youre a lucky man. my ex would barely be seen in my truck. it wasnt a half inch off the ground and it didnt sound like a sick lawnmower.

Short of rigwelderstaco junk... the rest of the rigs posted here don't look anymore expedition worthy then my junk...

I think some of you are living a pipe dream of running the Dakar or some shit...

rigwelderstaco... wtf is the mirror mount hanging off yer front fender for

Chase crews are definately worthy of being considered prepared and what not... But the purpose of that is to maintain a vehicle during a race or competition... offering some level of comfort to the crew

IMO an expedition rig is a single vehicle that is self contained and self sufficient to supply to the needs of the driver and/or passengers of said rig for long periods away from civilization where there is little to no opportunity to replenish supplies...

.....

Well, I know for myself I've kept my truck light on the build mainly due to my wife liking it as her DD. I'm trying to find her a vehicle she likes, and our family can use. She returned a new Mercedes a while back after about 5 days and wanted to drive my truck again... So that's where we are at.

My plan is to build up my truck all the way and use it as a dedicated Expo rig (total of @$50K). I'm going to Alaska this year. Hopefully next year its down to Argentina. Then we ship to New Zealand (where my wife's family is from) to travel both the north and south islands. After that, Europe and eventually Africa. I will have to switch differ things for each trip. My friends who will be traveling along have both ends of the stick for their vehicles as well. One bud has a Land Rover with over $90K invested and his truck could easily circle the globe right now. While my other friends Jeep is just now getting built. I like to work on my truck as much as I can myself. But that limits me as to what gets done on it since I work overseas...

I have no desire to do the Dakar or any other race. Like many others here, I'm building my rig to travel when and where I want. No "pipe dreams" here. Just my dream.

And my cab over camper doesn't do that? Specs here: http://www.six-pac.com/camper_t100s.htm
Haha.. I don't fit in with the crawlers or long travel desert runners. Where do I fit in at this forum? (Rhetorical question.)

I have many things that people may consider expedition, but because I have 2- 5 gal containers instead of an extra 22 gal. gas tank under where my spare tire goes, all of the sudden I'm not expedition? (insert backwards question mark)

Lets see what I am missing...
A getto snorkel
spare tire on top of my truck (because stock position is no good.)
more extra lights than the 4 that I have (I guess 8 makes your vehicle an expedition rig.)

Next picture I take I'll be sure to have my gas cans showing, my shovels hanging out, my lights on, and my bumper with its sub-par winch. My inflatable kayak will have to do as well as my hand held GPS and my hand held spotlight. Lots of bungee cords and tie down straps. And snow, oh ya lots of snow. Not behind the truck in the mountains. It must be on the truck.

Like I said, my truck is work in progress. I do consider it an expedition rig and I will take some pictures of it when I'm done with my build (like that's ever going to happen.) I hope then people will approve of it so I feel like I belong somewhere here at TTORA.

Funny thing you should say that! I'm of to somewhere near La Serena, Chile, to actually watch the Dakar Rally. Sure, I'm not running it, but I will be running along side of it for awhile, in the family Samurai, with all kinds of supplies including a winch. (no snorkel, but I don't think I'll need it where I'm going.) Camping under the stars of the southern hemisphere.

IMO, It will be really nice to be out in the Atacama desert of Chile (the driest place in on Earth, 50 times dryer than Death Valley) exploring instead of, well, anywhere else...

Well said cvlighthouse and I've enjoyed watching your build-up and posts from the past.

I downloaded that film from the other thread - wow! Impressive and extreme terrains - I envy you! It'll be interesting to see some of the pictures you might share with us.

The race recce HILUX was nearly unstoppable. If it only had a snorkel...
