I am thinking about buying a 1996 Tacoma V6 4x4 with 220,xxx miles. Granted it is a Toyota and could run for years to come, but just to be safe, if this car were to run into serious engine problems, what might be any possible options for engine replacement, repairs, etc. and maybe a cost (preferably cheap)?

Just try to find out when the timing belt and water pump were replaced. Good idea to get proof of good maintenance records. Motors are quite available in the wrecking/ recycling indusrty.

I mean you can tell the truck has some wear and tear and thats not the problem, just for about 3 grand or so, i figure why not buy it, and then if a problem occurs, just fix it or put a new engine or whatever in it. I just dont know how easy/hard that is.

Toyota doesn't have an engine program like the US automakers do and parts like short blocks, heads, cranks etc. are sky high in price. The best bet is to find a salvage engine should you happen to ever need one.
