All right fellow TTORA members you've helped me before so hopefully you all can come through again.

When I start up my 98 2.7 4WD Tacoma it sounds like it's about to turn off on me and then it somehow wakes up and and slowly gets to it's idle range of 750-850rpm. It literally get's down to about 10rpm or less and then it comes back up to normal idle. It goes away after I drive for a bit and after that it turns on like new, well almost. ;)

This is what has been changed in the past or recently on it's 110K miles of road life.

Fuel Filter(10K ago)
TPS(30K ago)
Spark Plugs(month ago)
Oil & Filter(month ago)
Air Filter(month ago)
Manual Transmission(5 months ago) - upgraded to 2001 transmission due to mechanical failures in original.

Could it be the PVC falve?

Thanks guys/gals,
Tino

My 2.7 loves to do that when the throttle body has a bit of buildup. I take off the intake, clean out the throttle body w/ some cleaner and a rag, then spray the MAF w/ CRC electronic cleaner and clean the intake pipe if necessary. Usually fixes it right away. ;)

What he said. My TB was caked in black soot, runs much better since it was cleaned. Be sure to use TB cleaner, not just any old choke cleaner.

Thanks for the help and man were you right on the money. My TB was caked in black soot as DakotaTacoma posted and so I sprayed most of it out and wiped as much as I could with some mechanic paper towels and now it looks nice and shiny inside. May be I can do a better job with some form of brush that can get really deep inside, hmmm?

On a side note, I also replaced my PVC valve and the one that was in all ready was filthy and it hardly made any noise when I jerked it around so may be that was at fault as well for my "almost dead" starts.

Thanks again all.

I was having something similar to this... I had my injectors cleaned at Jiffy Lube and after that I only noticed it happen once or twice after that. I don't know if that helps but it is my 2 cents...
Hey Dakota Tacoma... How do you like the NWOR Try-y header? I had a Header on my 85 and I would get the "under hood temp" code all the time.
Have you had any problems? Is it worth it?

Thanks

Not a fix for your problem but you may want to install a blocking plate on the EGR valve, it will through a light but will really help keep intake manifold clean. I keep mine blocked off and I just ignore the light.
