Friends-our 4WD is inop. We replaced the front actuator-no luck.
2yrs ago the shifter would not stay disengaged (I used my ski pole to keep it jammed into the back seat to get home).
Any help out there?
Sad to see my husband laying in the snow and ice trying to fix.
Thanks
Sandra

The transfer case handle has a bushing called the shifter seat. Most times they wear out but in extreme cases they disintegrate and will not allow the transfer case lever to stay.
It is the blue one for your transfercase behind the W59 Transmission.

Is the front diff actuator getting power? There is a fuse for “4x4” I believe in the cab fuse panel. Start there.

Aside from that, there are various switches and relays that tell the front actuator to engage once you move the shift lever to 4WD.
I would recommend trying to find the factory service manual on TIS or Alldata. This will provide you with the correct trouble shooting method to make sure the switches and relays are operating properly as well as an electrical diagram to make sure you don’t have any shorts or broken wires.
