Just purchased my first new truck on Monday, its a silver 2005 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner w/ the SR5 package. I love this truck, looked at or drove everything under the sun, this truck is built like a tank and drives like a sports car, ride is also amazing and the cab is quiet. Iam also very impressed by the power of the 2.7 DOHC engine, I havent even ran the tach past 4K yet, breakin to 1000 miles and Iam only at 265. First half tank of gas went 220 or better, simply amazing, just got back from the dealer were I picked up some rubber floor mats they ordered for me expensive but very nice, theyre the exact same size and shape of the carpeted mats, seat covers are next, but for $200 that will have to wait a couple more weeks. The SR5 package is the way to go, limited - slip is a must around these parts and it seems to work very good, if you havent drove a new 2005 yet, dont UNless you plan to buy one , Toyota really did their homework on this one. What a truck...

1st fillup

This is a rough estimate since I didnt fill the truck up at the dealer. Filled the truck up with 93 octane at 358 miles on the first tank 21.7 mpg, truck has been run easy and very little interstate travel and alot of time sitting idleing, not bad for break-in time, no problems to report, and for a Prerunner it goes great in the snow.. Gas mileage should greatly improve next tank, supposed to warm up so less time idleing. Thanks --- by the way great place here, keep up the good work. :)

the only 05 Tacoma that has a LSD is the Sport package and the Xrunner.
All those other LSD in the SR5 are fake versions. It uses the brakes to simulate it has an LSD in the rear. It does not have a true LSD.

A limited slip diff will still allow one of the wheels to slip, so that is why you get the wheels spinning in opposite directions on the lift. Only a full locking diff will keep the wheels spinning the same direction all the time, and keep you from doing a one wheel burn out.

The limited slip just holds traction a little longer than an open diff....

What's the benefit of having a LSD compared to the others. I have an 05' sport edition and am just curious what this does for me. Thanks

It helps in traction it alternats the power to each wheel giving the most power to the one with the most traction. the SR5 version uses the brakes to act like it has an LSD but it really doesnt
Makes sense, thanks

The SR5 package is a true limited-slip differental, and works great, I drove the same truck - the SR5 package and they spin very easy, it doesnt have anything to do with brakes. Now traction-control does and will actually cut gas feed through the injectors to keep the wheels from spining. I could go indepth but many people wouldnt understand and Id be typing a long time LOL. Thanks, and have a great day.

When I got my '05 they said it had LSD. I just looked it up on the Toyota site and learned that a Limited Slip Differential is part of SR5 packages #6, 7 and 8 as shown below. (I've got package #8 with 'the works' so the guy didn't lie) My question, though, is how much traction advantage does LSD give you offroad vs. an "open diff". Meaningful? Or is LSD more of an onroad traction thing?

SR5 Package #1 (SE) -- Standard Package #2 plus chrome grille surround and rear bumper, color-keyed front bumper and overfenders, metallic-tone instrument panel trim, variable intermittent windshield wipers, sun visors with sliding extensions and vanity mirror, and SR5 badging and upgraded seat fabric

SR5 Package #2 (SL) -- Convenience Package #1 plus chrome grille surround and rear bumper, color-keyed front bumper and overfenders, metallic-tone instrument panel trim, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift lever, variable intermittent windshield wipers, sun visors with sliding extensions and vanity mirror, and SR5 badging and upgraded seat fabric and driver’s seat with lumbar support (4-cylinder models)

SR5 Package #3 (SN) -- SR5 Package #2 plus fog lamps (V6 models)

SR5 Package #4 (UH) -- SR5 Package #2 plus 16-in. alloy wheels with P245/75R16 tires (4-cylinder models)

SR5 Package #5 (SF) -- SR5 Package #2 plus fog lamps and 16-in. alloy wheels with P245/75R16 tires (V6 models)

SR5 Package #6 (SG) -- SR5 Package #3 plus limited-slip rear differential

SR5 Package #7 (SH) -- SR5 Package #3 plus limited-slip rear differential and Towing Equipment

SR5 Package #8 (SJ) -- SR5 Package #5 plus limited-slip rear differential and Towing Equipment (V6 models)

well then if it is a true LSD why cant you get all that traction control stuff on the Sport model that alot of people have been talking about. I have read alot of threads about saying that the SR5 LSD is brake simulated
