Here is my predicament...I hoped to have 33s by now. My goodyear wrangler mtrs have lasted me 45,000 miles and still have half the tread left. They are 32s. I need gears but not sure whcih ones. I dont want to buy new tires until these are worn. I do alot of highway driving and with gas prices these days, I dont want to suffer a huge decrease in that department. What are some of your suggestions and reasons for those suggestions?

If you're definitely going with 33's and do a good bit of offroading then 4.88's, with mostly highway then 4.56's.

I know it has been discussed. And from reading what I have, I am still undecided. If you look as to how long I have been around, I am not exactly a noob here. Dont assume everyone is a noob and tell them to search just becuase you dont know the answer to the question.

Well it would be a mix of both. I try to wheel as much as I can, but I drive about 2000+ miles a month also. See why I am undecided. I know it is hard to get a good mix between wheeling and driving but I guess that I what I am trying to do.

Since you have an auto I don't think you could go wrong either way when you have 33's and not the 32's. I would go 4.88's for a good blend of both, if you tow anything, then definitely 4.88's.

I once saw a few pics of someone's truck after he put on a set of 33 mtrs and 4.56 gears. In his writeup he showed before and after pics of stock and then 33s and gears. The RPM was about 100-200 over what it was stock. That's the way I would go with 33s because I do a hell of a lot of driving like you.

You are talking about parksoffroad.com. I believe he went with 4.88s with 33s. Not sure about that. I would have to check. His speedo was also way off.

Peter is going to be your best bet for advice, as he has a double cab, 33s, and 4.88s.

I'm running 4.88s to spin my 33s, but I have a 5-spd and a 2.7L, so I can't really compare. What I can tell you is that my RPMs are higher than stock, but are still acceptable. It's not ideal for highway cruising, but it does really well off road.

Believe me when I tell you that the highway driving isn't bad, as I'm going to be driving from college in Utah back home to Alaska, and I wouldn't drive the 3,000 miles if I wasn't confident in my truck.

there are several members with the same rig you have who run 33s with 4.88s and do very well. Mike in Socal (inspectorgadget) averages 20mpg with his truck but he's keeps his foot out of it ;)
Peter parks in norcal...same thing.
with the v6 AT the rpms are not really an issue and the motor doesn't have to work nearly as hard to push the truck so overall mileage (city/hwy) actually goes up. the difference on the trail between 4.56s and 4.88s is a lot bigger than you'd expect...it blew me away.
