i went to order my rockcrawler black "51"'s, the D hole ones in 15" rim with 3.75 backspacing and he tells me they wont work because they will rub on the calipers. i could of sworn ive read on here that they work. he wants me to get a 16" rim since that is what comes stock on the truck. do i have to get 16" or will the 15s work with the backspacing, is anyone running this setup. i have a 2002 tacoma prerunner. any help would rule.

I have heard from other members it just takes a small amount of grinding in the D holes to make them fit. I know no one here likes them but a slim set of wheel spacers would prob do the trick, like 1/8" or something. You can get them pretty cheap off Ebay.

The guys at 4WP don't know jack about tacomas. They have told me that there are NO 15" rims that fit the newer Tacomas on more then one occasion... and we all no that isn't true.

ProComp does not make the 87 wheels any more (officially).
However, if you're very nice, you can call up 4wp and ask them to special order some from ProComp since they still have the dies. They've even told me i can get 15x10's.

I canceled my order simply because I needed some wheels faster than the 5 weeks it takes to get them.

I will be verifying all this info next month some time (when i get the money).

I am running the exact same rims with same backspacing and they did rub on the caliper so i had to go with 1/4" wheel spacers...i see no problem with the wheel spacers and they ride just fine

Tell them you are going to run wheel spacers then, if you are absolutely set on 15x8s. Honestly, I believe that any benifits of a 15x8 wheel are offset by their difficultly to find.

yea i just heard that 15x8 seemed to be the hot ticket that everyone wants. does anyone run the 16x8?? i heard something about it gives you more sidewall but im a prerunner and wont be rockcrawling hardcore, more like pebblecrawling. thanks atwinda.

I run 16x8s.. and crawl.. I haven't had a problem with blowing beads, etc...

More sidewall, and slightly cheaper tires are the reasons for 15s... but hell, with how hard it is to find the wheels, and then again when you dent a wheel, is just not worth it IMO.
