the coleman SUV sized air bed fits perfectly in the back of my first gen between the wheel wells, with the seats down. just enough room for two, and it gets you up off the ridged bottom in the back of the first gens. and in cold weather, its always a good idea to atleast crack one window in the truck while you sleep - it'll help cut down on the condensation that builds up in the truck over night...

it's surprisingly comfortable in there, and always easier than setting up a tent if you're only staying 1-2 nights somewhere.

I refuse to camp in a tent anymore. I've been meaning to do that screen thing for months...

I've never had luck with air beds, but I'm tired of dealing with a heavy ass futon pad. Does the Coleman one actually hold air for longer than 3 hours?

we didn't have a problem with it at all ... but our sleeping bag is a huge zero degree double bag, so even if it did deflate a bit we probably wouldn't have noticed.

i love my thermarest self-inflating mattress. it's surprisingly comfortable, compact and tough. it's definitely worth the money

i've spent way too much money on leaky air mattresses over the years that just suck the heat out of me at night before completely deflating by 6am. this really sucks after a tequila night.

Damn straight. The nice thing about the dream time is its got .5" of memory foam ontop of the 3" of self inflating matress.

You dont notice the foam, it just sounds nice lol. The extra .5" of padding is choice. Ive struggled for the past 10 years with sleeping pads and air mattress'. Now that im a little older ( and wiser to not sleep in the dirt) Its nice to not wake up with sore joints on camping trips.

Do yourself a favor and invest in a thermarest dreamtime FTW!
Fuck that . $200 for what amounts to a foam pad that is barely as wide as a twin bed? Shit, I would be worried that thing would rape me even more if I ever slept on it.

Looks like you can buy the SUV size Coleman airmat at Walmart, which means lifetime return policy... Might try one out again.

i ended up buying no-name foam pieces cut to queen size. i think its about 5 inches thick with the egg crate foam on top. it wasnt cheap at around $80 shipped for all three layers but its more comfortable then my bed. i couldnt do inflatable anymore after i built my platform because it put me too close to the ceiling. the foam sleeping surface is just a shade below the bottom of rear side windows as it is so you can imagine it starts to get tight in there if you stack higher

the thermarest mattress was somewhere around $65 here in canada.

a coleman mattress is about 20-$30 and i've been through at least 10 of them in my time.

i am as cheap as it gets. in my circle of friends i am known as the "jew" and the thermarest mattress is well worth the money.... even if it was $200.
