I just picked up a 91 4-runner 3.0 5spd with 125k. It seems to run very good but on the highway in 5th gear at 70mph the rpm's are at 3000. It is all stock tires are 31s, do the rpms seem to be alittle high or is it just me. Also what kind of gas mileage do these set-ups usually get, take into consideration the WARM Chicago winters I am in.
Thanks

That's the normal RPM, and a good thing. The early motors (22RE and 3VZE) don't make squat for power below 3000 RPM, if you are geared too high you'll kill your mileage by having to keep it on the floor all the time.

2nd gen 4Runner is a heavy vehicle and the 3.0 is a thirsty engine. Gas mileage SUCKS. I have never seen 20 MPG in mine - usually in the 15 range! (and I bought it to save gas money over my '96 Impala SS  )
