8th Annual Toy120 Mojave trip report

EDIT: TRIP INFO

Mojave Road Trip Dates: September 19 (Friday) through September 21 2014 (Sunday).

I will be staying out for an extra day most likely again.......in case anyone else wants to stay out Sunday night!!!

Those of us coming from Las Vegas, will meet around 8:00 ish am here @ Findlay Toyota. We will leave from here, and head down to Laughlin to meet up with those from California.

We will meet up as last year @ the Avi Hotel & Casino just outside of Laughlin, NV ON FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 19th @ 9:00 -9:30 am. We will leave the parking lot by 10:00-10:30 am
CB comms will be on Ch. #38. ham on 146.550.

Note: There is a gas station @ the Avi, and it's much less expensive than in Laughlin Or Needles. Also, just about a mile or so away, on the other side of the River....gas is even Way Less $$$ in Ft. Mohave/Bullhead AZ!! In fact, those coming from California, if you can make it to the Avi without stopping for gas in Needles, then you should, Gas prices in Needles are at or over $4.00 per gallon.
Also, Wait to fill up your extra Gas Cans until we get there too!! Saves you the extra weight transporting fuel from your home, and is Way less expensive than those from SoCal or NorCal!!

So, for all of the first timers............things that are required:

Your own personal toilet system!!! We HAVE TO PACK OUR SHlT OUT!!!!
This is mandatory, and is one of the conditions of my NPS permit!!!!

COMMUNICATIONS!!!!!! EVERY TRUCK Must have a working CB (min)
and/or a ham!!!!

Lots of extra water!!! And also.....bring lots of extra water!!!!! Also......bring Lots of extra water!!!!!!! Not just drinking water, you'll also want to bring containers full of water!!!! We will, after all, be in the middle of the Mojave Desert!!!!

Extra Gas!!!!!! Extra Gas!!!!!! I bring 15 extra gallons........10 will probably do it, but if you can bring a little extra, that will be better!!!! The Mojave Road itself, the main portion, is almost 140 miles........but we will be taking side trips, and that plus letting the trucks run for AC during the days, will eat up gas quickly......again, we're in the middle of the Mojave Desert, and there are no 7-11's or gas stations!!!!

These are a couple of the main things that you need, obviously, food, drinks, camping stuff, etc.........

More info!!!

I was checking out the Mojave National Preserve website, and they have a cool new feature. A Desert Tortoise app for I phones and Androids!!
The idea behind this app (which is FREE!!) is to better understand their whereabouts, and such.
They already want us to take a photo of them when we see them, but with this app......when you use your phone to capture an image, it also inbeds the GPS coordinates so when we forward them to the NPS, they know about where they are.

I encourage everyone going to go ahead and download this app for the trip!!!

Hey Robert, seen this last week, Sept. is busy time at work but could probably get friday off. I will be installing sliders next week. I seen items needed in first post.
Hey Danny,

Your truck is set up fine, but stuff like your own portable is a must!! There are many available......some don't cost a whole lot, most of us have the PETT toilet system. But, you can go with something as simple as a 5 gallon bucket with a seat, and trash bags with the gel that you can pick up at Walmart.

Other than that, I'm sure you have plenty of camping stuff.........but WATER WATER WATER is a Must, as is 10-15 extra gallons of gas!!

Hopefully you come along, if so......please also go here:

No worries Craig, I got a late start planning this time, so most likely going to be a small group, but that's cool......

Got it, just getting the day off is the challenge. Should know by friday.
No worries Danny, most definitely let me know, then go to the main planning thread on Toy120.
Thanks.............

I do it twice a year, Easter weekend for this club, and the third weekend of Sept. for the Toyota120 club.
I fucked up and started the planning thread way too late, even for me!
The Easter trip is always the biggest, the max I have had on that trip is 20 trucks! That was a real pain in my ass, trying to keep everyone together, and run in time to get to the places I was taking folks to see!
the max for this trip is 15...Still a crap load of people to deal with!

Not trying to toot my own horn (I am actually!).....but I am the best at this trip, having been going out there for 20 years, and 9 years of two trips (aside from day trips) a year for these two clubs, that's 18 three day trips now.......

But, because of my late posting, I'm capping it at 6 trucks, as I don't have time to apply and receive my National Park Special Use Permit....which allows me to take 7 trucks and well above!! I've gotten to the point now, that the small groups move quicker........not as many trucks and people to worry about, and I can take everyone to more places within the Mojave National Preserve!

You're more than welcome to come along......as long as you know, that I'm Not the guy that takes people from point A to point B........we generally are going to cover a greater amount of the Park than the straight though guys.....another thing that makes me the best at this trip!! :xpimp:

Man I'd love to but we're busy as hell with my business and trying to get all the year end runs for our FJ club organized. Like you, I'll do good to get your April trip organized!:D
