yes i made the mistake of buying a fipk before i red gadgets site. and i know the deck plate mod makes more power than the fipk but uni filters has a cone wrap for the fipk and the amsoil filter doesn't fit as good cause they changed the design but i heard the uni filter fits nice.

so im woundering should i sell the fipk and run the deck plate mod w/uni filter
or keep the fipk and get a cone wrap?

+gadgets test w/ the fipk was on a 96 runner would the power loss be the same on a 02 or newer?

I have the four inch deckplate and K&N. If I don't like it, I go back to stock filter. If that dosen't work, put the deckplate back in. Any aftermarket filter will work. Some better than others...It really depends what they send you.

I have an K&N FIPK on my 3.4 & acutally I am happy with the modest gains it provides. Although I have never seen any dirt in the intake tube as some other members have mentoned, I ordered a K&N Drycharger wrap for a little added protetection against water & heavy dust conditions. I paid 27.95 from www.Performanceproducts.com. One word of advise though...the one they sent me ...for a 3.4 FIPK kit..fit a little loose on the filter, perhaps there is another size that might fit better, its worth checking anyway. I ended up just stitching up the elastic so it was tighter, rather than go through the trouble of sending it back.

I have the setup you describe here. The K&N with a UNI filter wrap. Noticed NO loss is performance. Also, I went through some mud after I got it on and it kept all the mud from getting on the K&N. That is a good benefit for me. Here are some pics of my setup:

amsoil is the only way to fly

ditch that fipk and do the deckplate or remove the elbow and drop in an amsoil filter

its nice not having to replace a paper filter every ~200 miles in the dirt
