Hi all!
I just bought a 2002 sr5 2.7L 5sp, excab., I want to hook it up a bit and I have read enough air filter stuff to make my head spin, I am mechanically challenged too, I cant seem to find a TRD airfilter for my rig. any ideas?
I have read good and bad about the K&N FIPK kits, do they increase or decrease MPG, gas prices are on the rise.

the aftermarket filter kit will decrease your mpg if you punch the throttle a bunch, but if you normally drive easy it will increase your gas mileage.

I dont mean to hyjack the thread... but since we are on the topic of Air Filters... is there a large difference between the amsiol filter and the trd? seems to be a huge difference in price.

Do a deckplate mod with one of the following drop-in filters: TRD, K&N, or Amsoil. See links:

I have a K&N Air Intake Kit and as long as you don't floor it everywhere (which you will be tempted to) you should be fine. It doesn't increase MPG a lot, but enough to notice if you drive sane.

Are the Amsoil filters really that much better than the K&N? Anyone else have experience with both?

I've had the amsiol filter for a little over four years now and it's great. Clean it once a year and re-oil with Bell-Ray filter oil that's real thick and sticky so no oil on the MAF. I've heard that the K&N filter lets to much fine dust through unless you get the foam cover for it.

According to their tests the K&N performed slightly better than the Amsoil. Both performed worse than the OEM style paper type filters.

None of the stores in SoCal carry them I believe. You have to go through a dealer. I think there are quite a few on this board actually. Give a shout out on a thread and I'm pretty sure one will chime in.

I'm in Socal and I got mine through Amsoil directly. It took about a week to get to my door.
