Alcan Question

I just got my Alcans today, and the one thing I noticed is that they don't come with a new bolt for the front of the leafs. What's the chance that the old bolt will be re-useable, or should I go pick one up before I get started installing them? Would I need to go to the stealer for this or not? Thanks.

I did one side of mine last night and the front bolt was the easiest part. I did have trouble with the rear shackle being fozen inside of the bushing sleave and was a major chore to get it out. Enough so I am thinking of ordering shackles for the rear before doing the other side.

Mine is a 96 also so I would think you may run into the same trouble. The steel sleeve the bolt goes threw was entirely coroded and had no intention of coming lose. I tryed pressing it lose first only to push the bushing out of the spring. I ended up taking a cutting wheel and cutting a slit the length of the sleeve after burning it out of the bushing and it still wanted to stay.

The problem you described was at the shackle end right? I have new shackles to go on anyway, so I am not worried about that end. I have just heard people talking about the front bolt being froze, but I guess I will give it a shot. Thanks.

Good way to check if the bolts are seized or not---
Break the nuts loose on both sides and try to turn the bolts. If you can turn them without using a 6' bar on your wrench :D , they are prob not frozen in the sleeve and should tap right out.
Other than that or if you bunk the threads tapping them out, you should be good to go!

Take the nut of on the one side and take an impact gun to the bolt and spray a lubricant on the bolt as it is spinning and it should have no problem coming out.
