I wanted to share with everyone a real good experience I had recently with Steve at CBI....as most people know, I stand behind AJ at Bentup and Jason at DeMello Offroad 110%, and I wanted to add a third individual to this highly skilled group of Fabricators:
Ok, something every Toyota or Tacoma owner should know about....
I have an '02 Taco that I've built up pretty good, but always have had issues with axle wrap, hitting my rear diff, and bending my rear driveline.
I met up with a good buddy of mine from Idaho in Moab Utah for our annual Tacoma Territory club run. He had recently gotten a traction bar on his truck that was pretty mean looking, and beefy as hell. Jimmy had all good things to say about it, so I decided to start doing my research. As it turns out, Tacomas...or Toyota's in general for that matter.....don't really have anything GOOD out there to prevent axle wrap, other than the BS design of the staggered shocks.....so I made a road trip on up to Idaho falls to check out the designer of this trac bar.
Basically, with a couple days notice, I had driven to Steve's shop from California, and he immediately began working on my truck with the intentions of mounting the same trac bar as Jimmy's. After about 15 minutes of checking out my rig, Steve was hard at work, and continued solid for 4 days straight, all be it right before and on Christmas Eve!! At the end of the 4 days, Steve not only built a better, stronger, more powerfull designed trac bar for my Dana 60 (sorry Jimmy)
than i'd ever seen, he had also built a rear cage for my diff, a full shock crossmember and mounts, and several other miscellaneous items setting me up better than I could imagine.
This trac bar wraps all the way around the axle, up tight against the diff, diff guard was bolt on to both trac bar and cover, and lower portion of the trac bar was built with solid steel to be used as a "skid plate" to guard my rear drive line.
The setup is unreal!! Steve did 4 days worth of work, was incredibly reasonable, had only planned on a couple days, and did it all with a smile. Moreover, I have to say Steve's work is impeckable, perfect welds, and his ingenuity in making something work and look professional was pretty fantastic.
As for the test run on all this, the shock system was dead on perfect, the diff guard took the beating, and sure enough, the driveline was perfectly protected when the truck came down on the top shelf on Potato Salad Hill in Moab. And to the trac bar, I actually picked up both front tires and bounced on the rears getting up an obstacle in Moab, and according to my spotters, no axle movement whatsoever.
Steve Eggan owns C.B.I. Offroad up in Idaho Falls, which is a small but dedicated business for the serious and extreme offroader. Anyone looking for unquestionable fabrication skills, at the right price, from a super nice guy, Steve is the guy!! I recommend and stand behind him 110%. Thanks again Steve, and we'll see ya soon for that front Bumper!!
The most recent pics of his work on my Red Tacoma can be found at "norcalttora.com" then go to "pictures and videos" then go to "sub menus" where you will find "Miguels pismo pics" and "John's pismo pics"......Look for the biggest red taco and there are some good ones on the last obstacle of the pozo trail....
my 2 cents... :welder:
