I've been looking for the red Toyota coolant in Autozone and other places but can't find it. I know the dealer sells it but it's pricey. The guy at Autozone told me I can use the antifreeze that will mix with any color. Do I need to stick w/ the Toyota red stuff or can I use the mix w/ any color?
Thanks,
Mark

As far as I know, ethyl glycol is ethly glycol is ethyl gylcol.

The difference in red, light green and dark green is the additive packages.

If you wanna go forever and not flush like toyota says, use their red stuff. If you wanna flush once every year or so, go light green, if you wanna flush every year or at the turn of the seasons, go dark green. I don't really think the light green - prestone long life and dark green - napa store brand are that different, just different promises about their longevity.

SO, as long as the coolant has the proper base - ethyl glycol you should be fine.

Install the proper amout in the proper concentration and go.

I installed a backflush kit so I can easily backflush the system without paying someone to.

Compared to fixing your truck, I'd use the green, and flush it more often.

Later,

Daniel
