I have a '99 taco 3.4L trd supercharged. Right now I have a ton of spark knock. I am installing bigger injectors, Walbro 190 fuel pump, 170 thermostat, and 2 steps cooler spark plugs, smaller pulley on S/C, and headers. Down the road I am going to be adding water injection as well. I would like take my truck and put it on the Superflow chassis dyno and have someone reprogram the ecm. Any suggestions?

Btw, I am not very interested in the URD/Split Second FTC. I briefly researched it and it looks like they are just taking the Mass Airflow signal and conditioning it. I would prefer reprograming the ecm to my specific upgrades.

Also...I am not opposed to the trd 7th injector and piggyback ecm but I just want to make sure that its going to be the best solution. Anyone know the cost? Any comments and +or-'s? Thanks

1st suggetion-forget reprogramming the ECU. Unless Toyota tells you their secrets have fun wasting $ and time on unproven approaches.
2nd suggestion-vistGadget Online(4Runner Link) . Read up on what you "need" to fix the problem. The FTC unit will do exactly what you are trying to make the ECU do.
3rd suggestion-post your location. IF you get the FTC to fix your problems myself or other don't mind lending a hand or sharing knowledge. I've done a couple of tunes so far and will gladly help.
If you do decide to go the ECU route let us know what stand alone systen you use to replace the factory setup. I am not saying it cannot be done but it seems the long way to an easy fix. How are you controling the new injectors anyways? You are gonna run way rich you know.

Well you have the entire urd kit minus the ftc already. Why not get the kit as it has been proven to make then engine work correctly with the blower installed. Definately go check out www.gadgetonline.com or www.urdusa.com and make it work right. Otherwise your gonna spin your wheels backwards trying to re-program the ECM. There's a load of people that use the ftc and works correctly, but post what you find if you see another way. good luck

So if you are not interested in the FTC, then what do plan on controlling the injectors with? Are you just planning on putting them in and hoping that the factory system with notice..... Believe me, the URD kit IS the correct solution for the problem. I have been through alot with my truck and I am about over it, I am going to get the URD kit as soon as I find the cash. My setup right now, 330cc injectors, Supra MAF, 190lph fuel pump, Split Second ESC-1, and Apex'i S-AFC, and two steps colder spark plugs, do not do the trick. You need to be able to retard the timing to compensate for the predetination. If you want full specs on my truck check out the members gallery at www.ut-ttora.com and if you have any more questions please ask, I have been dealing with my fuel issues since 1999 and my fuel system is one of the ideas of another schmuck(JT) that had come up with. There is a reason he is still not in business and a reason why we have the priviledge of having URD here today. So Gadget, if you read this, expect my order as soon as I find the funds, cause this JT nightmare needs replaced!!!!

First, I am not running the truck with the new injectors until I do something with engine management system. My goal for my engine to be running at maximum performance. With a normally aspirated engine air:fuel ratio is around 12.1-12.7:1. I am not sure what is it is with a S/C engine. Stock ecm’s are programmed to make the best emissions with an air fuel ratio of 14.1. I need to talk to URD and find out more info on what their system will achieve as an air:fuel ratio over the entire fuel map curve. If that’s not achievable with their system, I want to go with a custom reprogram(especially when I get to CNC heads and cam pkg). I am in Palatine, a northwest suburb of Chicago. The Superflow chassis dyno I use is in Sugar Grove, Its called Speed Lab and is located in a shop called Automekanika off of RT12. I just want to make sure that if I go with a system that is not adaptable, and spend $500 to reserve a day at the dyno, and the dyno O2 sensor tells me that it is not running the most optimal air/fuel ratio over the entire power band…overwise I am not going to be satisfied.
