If so...

M/T or A/T?

Is the thing dead on power?

I loved my ol 1996 Tacoma 4wd, M/T with the 2.7L, but man... the 2005's are freaking huge. That's a lot of truck weight to haul around for a four-banger.

Please post up your comments if you own a 4wd 2005 with the new 2.7L.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the 2005 2.7L I4's have gone up to 160 hp vs. 150 w/the previous generation Tacoma's. I don't know if that would help it any. Good gearing certainly helps alot.

As for size, how are the weight comparisons? With all that plastic that the 2005's come with, I wouldn't think they would weight that much more than the earlier model Tacoma Xcabs.

The 2005 2.7 has 164 hp (@5200 RPM) and 183 ft-lbs. (@3800 RPM) while the older 2.7 had 150 hp (@4800 RPM) and 177 ft-lbs. (@4000 RPM). The weight difference between an 05 Access cab and an 04 Access cab is 400 lbs (according to edmunds.com). I have an 05 regular cab and notice no power difference between that and the 1998 2.7 that I also test drove. It's no speed demon, but it does much better than I would have expected.

i think they revv alittle smoother because they have variable valve timing

lots of plastic, valve cover, intake manifold

they now have electric smog pumps for cold starts, WTF, these are Volkswagens???

i dont care for the electric shift t-case

suspension rides much better than the older taco but it also sits much lower than previous so everything is a tradeoff

the X-cab has a lot of space and the doors are awesome but the rear seats suck bigtime
