I'd go with ARB just because they are designed with the airbag in mind, but that is just me. That's the only hangup I have with aftermarket bumpers. If they do not collapse as easily, the deceleration during an accident will be quicker, and thus the airbag may be deployed at slower impact speeds than with the stock setup. It may also deploy at a slightly different time in the course of a collision. Whether or not this difference even matters is debatable, but I'll go with the original engineering personally (I'm not in the habit of bashing things with my truck anyway ;) )

The airbag sensors are not on the bumper. The reason why ARB says it works with the airbag stuff is that they designed it to crumple kind of like the factory. Yes, it is alot stronger than the plastic. Personally, I would go with an aftermarket company that does alot of Tacoma-specific stuff. I would rather the bumper be a little tougher.

Matt. I'd presonally go with Demello, I've seen Jasons shop and work. Both are Top Notch. He also is a member of TTORA and contributes to this club in more than one ways. ARB is a monster company that mass produces bumpers and lockers (which I love by the way). I usually try to buy from small companies as long as their service is as good as their products.

Yep, the sensors are not on the bumper, but an aftermarket bumper will affect deceleration, thus affecting airbag deployment to some extent. The trick is to design a bumper that will crumple when needed (high speed impacts), but is strong enough for most impacts at slower speeds offroad.

demellos bumpers will infact crumple on hard hits that are from teh front, ie car/wall.. but will not fold like others when bashed upon.. I have a friend who had a demello bumper, he bumped me a few times and it didnt move, but he rear ended a crown vic and the bumper folded.. its funny you guys mention airbags, because i have noticed our airbags rarely go off in accidents, hell there was a guy the other day doing 90mph and his airbag never deployed. he rolled it violently 5 times... and totalled the truck...

If you examine the frame rails you will find crumple zones built in to them after the bumper attach points. The stock bumper is not really a bumper at all but just so much trim and fascia. When I replaced my stock front bumper with something shall we say a lot more substantial, I was able to pick up the entire stock bumper, valence and all with my little pinkie. The stock bumper is not engineered to offer any protection whatsoever it's sole purpose is aesthetic.
