My 2004 XtraCab TRD Prerunner build. The title is because my captain & driver started calling it "The Armor-Dillo" once I started all of my fabbing projects.

At dealership:

When i brought it home, had dealer add nerf bars & spray in liner:

Added some rear hoops:

Note* They didn't last though, I didn't really like the way they looked so I ended up cutting them off a little later.

Note* this is the trip that made me look into doing a 4x4 conversion.

My friend also has a Prerunner, and he kept bugging me to sell my bumper to him, so I sold it to him for $350 + some lights, which I used to build my next bumper.

I found a set of 305/70R16 Cooper Discoverer STT for free, so I ordered some 1 1/4" spacers from All-Pro to run on the front to clearance the UCA's.

I sold the TrXus tires & did a few side roofing jobs to fund my 4x4 conversion. I didn't take any pics during the conversion b/c I was too worried about getting it done. I wish I would have took some, but there are some good writeups on this forum. I found a complete manual locking hub front end from a guy locally that did a SAS for $300, I got an older model J-shift t-case & peiced together everything else I would need off of this & a few other Toyota forums. I found a 4x4 transmission from a wrecked 03 Tacoma with 50K miles with ADD t-case still attached on ebay for around $600. After I had everything I needed, it was time to start conversion. I did the conversion in 2 steps, the front end in one day: differential, CV's, hubs, spindles. And I did transmission swap in one day about a month later. Few pics of what I have:

Cut Prerunner floor plate:

Transmission swapped & t-case bolted on:

Cut my console & got rubber shift boot:

I found a member selling a 1" 4Crawler body lift, so I went for it. Also found a Softopper from someone on expeditionportal.com. I had to remove my bed bar & relocate CB antenna to put the top on. Here it is as it sits today with 4x4 conversion done, BL & topper on:

Right now I am working on my in bed tool box project: I don't know exactly how I want to do the lid yet, but I will post pics of my progress.

Cut hole in bed & put tool box in. Just have lid left to finish.

Got some new tires. 255/85R16 Toyo Open Country M/T. I am loving them so far. IMO, the 255/85 look and ride way better on Tacoma's. These Toyo MT's are the best riding and quietest mud tire I've ever had.
