Kicking around the idea of doing a manual tranny swap down the road. I only have 4500 miles on mine and simply HATE automatic trannies. Plus I tow often enough to want to be able to put it whatever gear I want and roll and not worry about over heating or something going wrong.

So what I am thinking off the top of my head would be. I did this on a 2nd gen PU a couple years ago, but they were much simpler.

  • 5 speed, clutch & flywheel out of a 2WD Tacoma (don't want or need 4WD or plan to do an SAS
  • Pedal assembly
  • Clutch master & slave cylinder, hard lines, etc.
  • Redo the crossmember I assume

One other thing is the computer thinking it still has an automatic. On the older ones it was a separate computer and could be removed without an issue. On the Tacomas I assume this is not the case.

I read a thread here recently about an auto-manual swap on a 4x4 and it was considered by many knowledgeable members to be very complicated. Try a search and you may find the thread. I'll look myself. It also involves swapping the ECU, which I believe you left off your parts list. Be back if I find the thread...
