Hey yall, I've got an 02 double cab trd 2wd; bone stock except for 265/70/16 bfg AT. If I drive spirited, i get 14.5 miles per gallon. Granny driving in the city, i get 16. Granny driving highway, i get 18. According to a lot of you, i should get around 20 miles per gallon. I went to the dealership and asked the service manager. He said that was good gas mileage for a tacoma like mine and that there is no way to improve it. Could someone atleast tell me why i get this gas mileage or maybe give me an inexpensive way to improve it? Thanks

My mileage went UP to around 20 with my 265/75/16. Goodyear at-s. Kinda street oriented all terrain tire. I figure my overall gearing change from the tires helped with the freeway driving, but did not change enough to hurt the street driving. Yesterday, I went from here to hell and gone, and used only 7/8 tank. Huntington Bch to big bear, up and down that hill, lots of back and forth, and home. And, I was spooling it up all day in 4lo, at 5G's. But, you sound pretty average. Some sorry driver is getting 200mi for an entire TANK. And, to make it worse, I believe he has a 4 banger. So, don't cry too much.

yeah my buddy was saying that there is a slight chance that with a street tire in 265/75/16, gas mileage may actually go up if i stick to mostly freeway driving. I will test the theory when the bfgs where out... in like 25k more miles.
