Meeting place will be at the start of Loope Canyon road off of hwy 89 at 9:30am. 10am we'll head out onto the trail. About 30 mins from the meet spot is a small town called Markleeville. This is the last spot for any supplies, bathroom(s) with running water, to gas up, whatever. The gas station there has a spot to air up your tires. However, it takes quarters. So, be sure to bring some for after the trail ride.

Here's the planned route: Starting at Loope Canyon road we'll drive until the 2nd FR190B trail head. From there we'll go onto FR310 and take the right fork near Cottonwood Canyon. Then a left at the 2nd fork that will lead us to an open area across the river from the stone hot tub. We'll set-up camp there and head out the same way we came in the previous day. If there's enough daylight on Saturday, I may decide to check out the left fork from Cottonwood Canyon..... we'll see.

Here's some maps: http://californiajeeper.com/barney/trail-maps.htm

FYI-This is the weekend of Mother's Day(5/8)

Trying to get a people/truck count.

Anyone committed on going or thinking about going?
Is snow going to be a concern? If I recall, some parts of that trail approach 8000 feet.

Were not sure what the conditions will be. Right now we're trying to figure out if 89 between hwy 4 and 395 will be open. It's currently closed. If it's not open, then there's a bypass using "The Old Barney Riley" trail just south of Markleeville. However, there's a gate there as well. At this point, I don't have a Plan B until that weekend gets closer.

Plan B

Just in case the road to the Barney Trail is not open I'm trying to get some info on some other trails. Around the area, there's: Moonrocks, NV; Pardoes and Corral Hollow.

How's Pardoes and Corral Hollow this time of year? I know both of them are off of 88 but, is it before or along Carson Pass? Reason I ask, is Carson Pass might not be open for the 7th and 8th.

Pardoe's trail is pretty high, it probably won't open until late June.

We all need to gather around and do a snow melt dance. :D

Oops, Corral Hollow is off of 4 not 88. Anyways, this snow needs to hurry up and melt or at least stop raining/snowing.

Do you have any other suggested locations?

Hi Mike. I am dying to get up in the mountains and do some wheeling and camping. Unfortunatly, I think we're going to have to let the snow melt for a few more weeks.

There's a trip to Frank Raines OHV park next Sunday, and then a trip to Hollister in the middle of next month.

A few of us will probably end up helping out with some early season trail maintenance up on the Rubicon pretty soon if you are interested.

Can't do FR. However, I'll see if I can make the Hollister trip and the Rubicon trip.

Thanks!

Hey Mike, I was just up at 5,000 ft level last week. (Just east of Grass Valley) Snow is still deep in parts. North Facing Mtns was up to 4'-5' in some drifts, solid 1' to 2' in most spots. South facing was pretty clear with small patches.

According to the GPS this is what we got stuck in at 4,500 ft. Just more info for you.

Just a reminder:

Bump for anyone who is interested in going. I'm leaving friday afternoon and meeting a few people up at the meeting spot. We still don't know how the trail will be but, we do have a plan B if the trail becomes impossible to get through. Some of us will scout it out friday to see what the conditions are. Plan B: On the Nevada side from 395, we can run a trail that follows the Carson River and still camp. We'll decide saturday morning when everyone gets there. ***Reminder we'll be on the move by 10am.***

FRS Channel 7(sub channel 0)
CB Channel 7.

I'll most likely be away from the cpu tomorrow. So, if anyone who is interested in going can try and call me at 925-864-0734.
