What kind of lights does everyone use on their bedbar, or have they seen on a bedbar? I was thinking about adding some Hella 550 fog lights to mine, but not knowing squat about lights, I am open to any and all suggestions. Really I am just looking for something with a good spread, black metal housing (if possible), and rugged enough to stand up to a little abuse.

What kind of issues? I have had the 500's up front for 4 years and haven't had any problems. Both of them have chips from rocks in them, and one isn't sealed well, but after 4 years, they still work perfectly. It should be the same for the 550s, but you dont have to worry about any rock chips with them on the bedbar.

Oh yeah, cheapest I could find them was at Summit Racing. I got them for $72 + handling(shipping). I think the total was $82 or somewhere around there.

Yes, I think $72 sounds about right. As far as issues, I was thinking about stuff like the bulbs constantly going out, poor design that would cause them to fall apart over time, or even rust. I have never used Hellas, so not knowing the product, these may not be an issue at all. In the past, I have used some (IMHO) overpriced PIAA bulbs that I thought were basically garbage. I'm sure others have had great experiences with PIAA, and in the future, I may too, but for now, I'm looking for something different and more reliable.

the hellas should use a normal H3 bulb in them I know the 500's do but maybe not the 550's (but id imagine they do) so you shouldnt notice much difference in life span or whatnot from any other lamp that uses an H3. However Ive noticed that the same H3 in different lamps can get alot brighter... its just all about the size of the reflector and how the light coming from the bulb is focused makes it seem brighter.

Im sure the 550 would be an excelent choice for a bedbar.

One tip for the bulbs: Make sure not to touch the actual glass part when you put them in. This will cause grease from your fingers to get on it, and somehow(I am not sure how) causes the bulbs to go out prematurely. I would get them. $80 is not that big of a mistake if you dont like them.

Yea, I am aware of not touching the bulb. That was the first question that popped up when I told someone about a headlight bulb going out prematurely on my Ducati. Of course, being a Ducati, any number of things could have caused that little problem!!!
