With gas prices as high as they are I decided to see just how many miles I could get out of a completely full tank and got way farther than I thought I would...

on....

thats 393.8 miles on 18.699 gallons = 21.06 mpg I filled the tank completely up before, so i'm guessing the extra 1/5 of a gallon was from the hoses. I think 400 is possible with a completely full tank and all highway miles (that was about 70hwy, 30city), but I dont like getting it that low, lol.

Nice! Your truck must be waaaaaaay more aerodynamic than mine. I'm afraid to calculate my mileage. I just go to the gas station and bend over.

Sometimes it is nice to have a fairly stock 2x4 (like at the pump) but other times it sucks (like in my avatar).

I have heard that the gas light comes on when there is 3 gallons left, but from my personal experience, I think it starts blinking off and on at about 3, then stays on at around 2. It may be my imagination, but it seems like the lower it gets, the brighter the light shines, lol.

when i was test driving my taco before i bought it, the light was on the whole time, and i think that might be right, if not a little more. My gauge is pretty fucked up, it will be all the way down, the go back up to 1/4 left, then halfway between that, then back, down...ect..untill the light comes on....

Oh that wasn't an average tank for me, I just decided to fill it ALL the way up (took like $4 after it first "clicked") and then try to drive easy. I normally average about 20-22 mpg going to and from school, which is a 3 1/2 hour drive, and was trying to see if I could make it up here and back on one tank. I normally get around 320-350, but thats mostly highway miles, and not running it that low. In mostly stop and go stuff its more like 280-300. Best ever was 24 mpg on 100% interstate driving at 70-90mph. I'm guessing the K&N and elbow removal helped out a little. I also removed the intake silencer for a little while, and it seemed to add a tiny bit of power (coulda just been me wishing for it) but it hurt mpg by 1-1.5 so I put it back in. Other than those 2 things I run synthetic oil, so that may help out, but I doubt it's enough to notice. The best way to get good gas mileage is to just not hammer it from every stoplight, and try not to drive too hard.

I'm lucky to get 300 miles on a tank... in mostly city driving, I usually get ~17mpg. Highway I get a hair under 20. I drive like my grandma, only slower from the stop lights. I keep it below 70 in the freeway. I'm fully synthetic on all of my fluids, and have an amsoil air filter... I also have denso irridium plugs. I don't understand why I don't get better gas mileage... any ideas?

Damn thats pretty good before i added the revos i was getting 350 miles on a tank now im getting 280-300. My guess is that the tires are heavyer eventhough they are 265/75R16. Next time have a 5 gallon spare in your truck and see exactly how much you can get from full the empty.

my gas mpg experiences with 2000 Taco PreRunner V6

I attempted to preview my work and it said I was not logged in , ended up losing 20 minutes of writing, and I was logged in,darn computers!!
Anyway, my truck is basically stock, with 10x15x31.50 BFG AllTerrains. I was getting a pretty consistent 17 mpg city( ave speed 40, stop and go, flatland driving) and 22 mpg highway ( 70 mph ,flat lands) and using 89 octane gas.
After Toyota changed my timing belt and installed a new water pump, my highway miles fell to 19 mpg, why?? I had my mechanic tear apart the engine and he said the new timing belt was on correctly.I was having a rough cold idle problem which my mechanic was able to fix by cleaning something called a mass air flow sensor.
So,next I had my guy install new platinum tipped spark plugs after I gave up trying to find the darn things. He told me they were down inside the valve covers now and wanted $150 to install them but it came out to be more like $80. NO mpg difference. Next, I had him flush and clean my fuel injectors and rails with a special machine he has.Took 2 hours. HOLY COW,BATMAN!! City mpg jumped 2 mpgs!! Highway mpg , no change, maybe a little worse even. Also, a new air filter element helped. I figger I am now getting 19-20 mpg city, and 18-19 highway. Yes, believe it or not, my city mpg is actually now better than my highway mpg!! I also seem to think the Silver gas gets me 1 mpg better than 89 octane.
I was also having problems with crosswinds blowing my truck all over the road on the way down to Indy from Chicago on i65. Presto, problem stopped when I added a Leer extra tall fiberglass camper shell. Handles real good in wind now, don't know why, really.
Anyway, here's the kicker.I was driving in Tennessee, near Knoxville/Tellico Plains in the Smoky Mountains, using 91 octane, 2 people in the truck and maybe 600 pounds of camping and gold mining gear, averaging 62 mph( following my friend pulling a trailer, thank God for safety chains cause his trailer came off the hitch and would have clobbered me!! ) I got 23-24 mpgs, my best ever!! But once we got back to Cincinatti/Indy/Chicago area, my mpg's immediately fell back to 19 or less, even at 62 mph.
I can only conclude that hillbilly gas is much better for mpgs than big city gas.Big city gas must be formulated for cleaner air at the expense of gas mpgs? A couple weeks ago, I went down to Indy and figgered at 70-75 mph, I'd be lucky to get 17 mpg.Boy, was I surprised to get 19,almost 20. Gas mpg is definitely better after March, definitely gets worse by 1-2 mpgs in winter even tho I hardly ever warm my truck up.
Now, can somebody tell me what to do for my electric locker? It no longer seems to lock. The dash light just keeps blinking red. I sure hope its not a $500 repair job?
