I recently had a set of OME 881 and Bilstein shocks put on the front of my 1996 Tacoma. The coils gave the recomended lift but it looks like the shock is too long or something. My truck is factory no lift whatsoever. Where the top of the shock sticks out of the suspension support the retainer and cushion are loose. However the nut on the shock is tightened all the way down. I don't know what the deal is. The shop that put them on didn't say anything about it. Maybe its not a problem, but I don't see how the shock even works with it the retainer and cushion able to be turned by hand. ANy insight is appreciated.

Bushings above, and below?? With the proper washers, too??Sounds like something is missing, or, the bushings were compressed over time, and need replacing.

I bought new rubber cushions when I had them replaced. Is it possible the parts are there, but the mechanic just got things out of order? Or would that even make a difference? Thanks for the reply.

the bushing washers only go one way; they may have been installed upside down.

which Bil shocks? I hope they were the HD models.

I think we may be getting somewhere.b The cushion on the side which looks correct looks differnt than the one on the other side when I bought the new cushions I looked at them, four cushions two where one size and the other two where another. I bet that is what has happened. If that will make the difference I'll bet that is where my problem is. Yes the shocks are the HD. Thanks, I'll get it looked at again.

the washers should be conical with the 'cone' up for the top one and down for the bottom one. That made a huge difference in my OME shocks.
