After putting my fuel rail back on, I noticed some fuel leaking from one. So I pulled it back off and there was a torn O-ring. Since it was like 11pm and I had to go to work at 6, I decided to try and steal one ogg my wifes Eclipse(its down for the moment). It fit like a glove. So I investigated further, and noticed that not only was the nipple end the same size, but the plug too. It wouldve fit in my truck. That got me wondering....could you rape some off some car at a junkyard that is a higher performance stock motor? I havent researched flow rates yet, but does this sound like a plausible power gain? Afeter all, to get the most out of a freer flowing intake, youd need more gas right? other wise why have more air?

Many here go up in injector size but we all have the SC so can actually burn the extra fuel and then you have to add something to modify the MAF input to the ECU to trick it into controling the higher flow injectors. With a stock intake and not diddling with the inputs you would have a problem with the ECU being able to lean out the fueling enough so the engine would run right at light loads and at idle. Then I doubt like hell that you could actully burn the fuel the injectors would deliver. There are also issues with the impedance of the injector but my guess is that both Toyota and the Eclipse could be using Denso injectors. The impedance of the 3.4L injector is 13 ohms.
If you're interested in this kind of thing a good book to get is "How to Tune and Modify Engine Management Systems" by Jeff Hartman. It's a good read, explains the different EFI systems and the various sensors used. It even has a chart listing flowrates and impedance of Denso injectors along with Bosh and some others. It's a really good book and well worth the $30. I recommend it to everyone before they get the SC or start jacking around under the hood in other ways i.e. NOX, forced induction, etc. $30 is a lot cheaper than a new engine or a set of heads.

hey, thats some good info! I'll definatly look into that book. My 2.7 has 163k on her, so I'm trying to keep up and maybe get a little ahead of the stock power and efficiency. BTW, did you mean resistance?

Resistance and impedance are pretty much the same thing i.e. resistance to the flow of current. Resistance is just pure DC resistance but impedance includes capacitive and inductive reactance as well. The injector is basically a coil electronically speaking and since it has lots of inductance I used the term impedance. Engineer types are just kinda funny that way. :)

I would have to agree. I just got the book and it is full of so much good infor I know I will have to read it a few times to really understand it all.

Hey Dick, you an engineer? Or learned about electronics the good old fashion way?

Good explination by the way on impedance vs resistance.

EE type and that kind of stuff. I've been working image sensor gigs for the last few years now but have done all kinds of stuff from avionics to test equipment. I'm an old guy with over 40 years of work experence. Now I dabble at marketing but am sticking my nose back into engineering a little. Just can't help myself, I like makin stuff.

40 years experience, wow. I guess that would make me a rookie still. I have about 7 years experience all in the aerospace industry. I have done a few management type of roles but design is what I love to do. I know what you mean about making stuff. Oh and that whole corporate america thing (office job) is a little too slow and not hands on enough for me. Working on my truck/cars is what keeps my hands on craving satisfied. My girlfriend always says that she could never picture me in a white collar type of job. It’s good to see others in the same type of field with the same interest(hobbies).

I did management for years. I hate it so now refuse any management role where people report to me or I have some BS management or VP title. I'll do project management or screw with vendors and such but I hated being a manager and having that title, it sucked. From my perspective those that can, do and those that can't do, manage.

Lol, that is exactly how I feel. The roles I have done are project management type of roles, team lead and so on, but only if I am the lead designer. If they were strictly management type of roles I would not take them. It is sad to say, but there are way too many people around here that “can’t do.” So there is never any drawback from my refusal.
