Just installed a magnaflow cat-bak on my 04 V6 4x4 taco and the check engine light came on after I drove it for about 50 miles. I have 9k on the truck right now. I did a reset after I installed the cat-back. If I take it into my local toyota dealership will they say "you voided your exhaust warranty by installing the magnaflow cat-back" and send me home? Should I replace the O2 sensor with a new Bosch brand one from autozone? Please help me fellow Taco owners

He's right, take it to the dealership. But vif u ever do uy an O2 sensor buy one from www.O2sensor.com, they are knowledgable and sell walker, which is made by denso. I have heard negative things about Bosch, butnhave never had one myself. I have 15000 on my walker replacement and have had no trouble. Plus the Walker was $199 and Advance Auto qouted me $349 for a Bosch.

Negative. I live in San Diego, and just went to Auto Zone last week and used their computer to check my CEL. That is your best bet. You give them your Driver's License and they give you the computer and you do-it-yourself.

Not if you live in California. The autozone's here stopped doing that a long time ago.

Well, the still advertised it on their TV commercials when I was just there in Feb, and still did it last summer when I still lived in CA.

Autozone read the code for me. I have a 420 code. Possible bad O2, valve leak, bad catalytic. If the EFI reset does not work should I take it to the dealer?
Other people have had the same problem with that catback and the same code coming up. See posts by Tred on Custom Tacos to get more information.
I think the problem is the way Magnaflow setup the mount for the O2 sensor in the pipe of the catback. If you were to get the muffler shop to cut off the section of pipe that has the mount in it and weld on that same section of your stock pipe, I think your problem will go away. I had my catback made with a Magnaflow in it and have had no problems.
Going to the dealer will gain you nothing. What are they going to tell you besides "you put an aftermarket exhaust system on your truck and now you are pulling an 0420 code" and then charge you money for it.
Modify the catback or remove it---those are your choices.IMO.

Pulling the EFI fuse for two minutes should have done it. Toyota manual says "more than 60 seconds". If that doesn't work, remove the negative battery cable for a coulple of minutes. That will work for sure. I had a guy the other day say he couldn't clear a CEL and, over the phone, I finally figured out that he wasn't starting the engine after resetting---he was just turning the key on. Giving you full credit--you do know that the CEL will always be on if you just turn the key on with out starting right?

just reset your EFI fuse in fuse box behind your battery, I had the same thing happen and a tech at the dealership showed me the little trick. enjoy
The SMALL fuse... not the big block in there that says EFI.

Ive had my magnaflow for about 1.5 years now and had no problmes. I replaced the stock muffler with the magnaflow and used the stock piping. Today i had the pipe cut off from the muffler out and installed a dump tip and no check engine light came on.

I got the CEL after installing the TRD cat-back on my '00 Prerunner. It came on a few times but always turned off by itself within 50 miles. After a couple months it stopped coming on all together. So if you just installed it, I would give it a while before you spend any ca$h.
