Well experimenting with my shifting today I noticed I didnt need to use the clutch, only to take off. Upshifting and downshifting without the clutch and no problem. Somebody actually told me it would screw up the tranny if i did it all the time.

Way to go grasshopper! The old truckers shifting even works while at a dead stop, but that is where you can screw stuff up pretty bad. Just have to throw it in low and rev up just right to pop it in first. Could do it on my old 4runner.

The method of clutchless shifting doesnt really jack up the tranny like you think. Now if you grind all the time.... then yea. The synros may wear out a bit faster than normal, but on my fathers old '82 toyota PU, we did clutchless shifting for about 10 years and never had a problem with the trans....only the blue paint that never stayed on the hood.

The reason it works is because the syncros match up just right as certain RPMS (usually 3100k to pull out of gear and 2200ish to put back in..depends on speed/gear also) that make shifting perfect. It's not the best if you do it and every shift is a sudden tug, that could lead to problems. Downshifting usually is the trick place, especially while going into 3rd.

Have fun man, and just dont go overboard.

YOU MEAN YOU DON'T NEED TO USE THE CLUTCH WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION  . Well, I've been wasting a lot of time and energy with my left leg. ;)

so is that why they put in the "clutch start cancel" button :lmao:
No, the "clutch start cance; button is so that you can start the truck with out depressing the clutch pedal. It is also used to move the vehicle, while in gear while not actually trying to start the truck but just to move it.

pushing that button + in gear + turning key = a burnt up starter... i really wouldn't recomend using that button while in gear. just my $.02

it works, but it's temporary, and your trans will be as well if you do it all the time. the reason the clutch is there is to stop everything from moving so the syncro's will line up so you'll have a "smooth" shift. if you choose to do it all the time, beware.

I'd have to say it's not the smartest thing to do, even though, like you said, it works. But, again, as you said, I wouldn't go overboard w/ it. I did do it on my 90' Yota, but that was b/c the trans was already going out and it really didn't matter whether I used the clutch or not LOL!!!

yeah, but that's only if you do it for like 10 minutes straight, lol!! I've actually melted my battery cables from doing that 1 time when I ran outta gas gettin off the interstate on the off-ramp. My gas gauge was F-ed it never worked right... Oh yeah, along w/ the battery cables, the starter was smoking like a motherfucker, hahaha!!

At this point, idk exactly... but one thing I did notice... the "Clutch Start Cancel" (yes there actually is one on 4x4 5-speed's), is used to start the truck in gear while off-road. For example, when you stall out and rolling will put you in a worse position than you already are.

New clutch=I'm guessing about $600-700 with labor.
New tranny=A few grand?

I know which one I'd rather put wear on.

i thought the clutch cancel button was to be used only on a steep hill when you dont want to worry about rolling back if you have a manual. you just press it, start it in gear and give gas... i think its stupid how i cant start my 05 taco in neutral without depressing the clutch. Plus the point where the clutch engages is all the way at the bottom so you really gotta step on it.
