I'm looking to buy a used 2004 DC 4X4 to replace my 2003 which was stolen. Anyway, I was looking at one today and notice some sort of computer mounted on the wall behind the seats in the rear. (Where the jack is kept... on the driver's side) The owner had no idea what it was. Can anybody here give me a clue?? I didn't have this big box thing in my 03 truck. It's about 4.5"X3" with lots of wires connected to it.

Yes it does as a matter of fact. It has something to do with towing?? FYI: My '03 did not have the tow package.
I have that box, and the inputs/outputs are labeled : Left Turn, Right Turn,
Stop. It's the converter box for the factory installed plug at the hitch.

Yes, I believe it should... the tow package should have included the hitch, wiring, and tranny cooler... the cooler should usually be mounted to the front of your radiator. You can also tell if your truck has the tow package by looking at the fan shaft.. Green = tow package, Orange = no tow package. :)

When I bought my truck new, it came with a class 2 hitch and an orange fan clutch. Has anyone bought / installed the green one after buying a truck with an orange one? Was it a pain? expensive? What does the fan clutch do anyway? BTW mine has a stick shift so I know it doesn't need an oil cooler.

The coloring was Toyota's way of telling the customer whether or not their truck came with a factory tow package... At least that's what it said in my manual.... I would think that there wouldn't be a difference between the two fan clutches, but who knows....?

There is a difference between the green and the orange. The tacoma tow package does not come with a tranmission cooler but with a different fan clutch. From what I was able to find out it allows the fan to blow a lot more air over the engine thus keeping it cooler. I looked into getting one and the part itself was somewhere around 150$. I'd just put a tranny cooler on.

Yeah, I've got the green fan shaft and tow package, but there isn't a factory installed cooler in front of the radiator. So the differences must be in the fans.
