SteveO is pondering his own setup like that right now to thwart: teenagers, no-good-niks, and unprofessional Toyota technicians.

Yea... I love my winch offroad but the idea of this thing hanging in front of my truck so anyone with a warn controller can winch my junk sucks. now I have to think of a way to lock the release. I had one of my co-workers fiddle with it...the bastard pulled 10 feet of line out and thought it was funny at first.....NOT...lucky he decided to tell me what he did. that got me to thinking... what is stopping anyone else from doing it?mudferret said:SteveO is pondering his own setup like that right now to thwart: teenagers, no-good-niks, and unprofessional Toyota technicians.

Can I retract that statement and say Automotive Techs instead?tacodab said:Yea... "unprofessional Toyota technicians" WHAT!!!
No worries..and no need..I thought you had an experience to talk about. I would not put it past anyone to mess with all the buttons and stuff. Hell they mess with it when I am in the truck...LOL my buddies do ..that is.mudferret said:Can I retract that statement and say Automotive Techs instead? The type that like to fiddle with buttons and switches were the ones I thought of right away.
I got my truck back from the dealer and both my locker buttons were on but the compressor was off. That one experience was enough to put in a shut off so you can't use the remote or in cab winch control unless the overide switch under the hood is on. Would suck to have some stupid tech guy hold the winch button on and wreck your junk.tacodab said:No worries..and no need..I thought you had an experience to talk about. that is a good idea and cheap....I like it.SteveO said:I'm doing that right now to mine but instead of fooling with the larger wire, all you need to do is put a toggle on the power feed (red on mine) to the controls and shut it down unless you need it. Put the switch under the hood and only flick it on when you're wheeling. I guess it won't work with an integrated solenoid winch but you could still remotely switch the controls if you opend up the pack. I don't see the need for all the stuff in that kit, especially for the cost.
I have a kill switch for my added toys as well.....glad to see I am not the only one that is paranoidSteveO said:I got my truck back from the dealer and both my locker buttons were on but the compressor was off. Not just that I'm paranoid but I've seen what those jokers are like with peoples vehicles. I can imagine them out test driving my truck in 2WD and engoging the front ARB and the whole front end grenades. "We didn't do anything wrong, I never touched the button. :xcrybaby: " I'd rather be safe then sorry and not have some joker pull the hook through the fairlead on my winch.tacodab said:I have a kill switch for my added toys as well.....glad to see I am not the only one that is paranoid![]()
