What is everyones opinion of where to cut the tail-pipe. I want to just ditch my entire thing and just go with a turndown, but now that I think about it, that doesn't really get it outta the water. Water getting in the tailpipe will corrode it faster, althought not fast, by any means, I know. Takes years.

But anyone think of any reason not to cut it right above the axle toward the back? Would easily give you a safe 2'-2.5' of clearance in water.

Thoughts?

shorter pipe = quicker intrusion of water. Why not take the pipes straight outta the hood verticle like the semi's do it? ;)

I cut mine about 6" from the muffler, and no water is gonna get in there unless you like to shut your truck off whilst the tail pipe is under water.

Mine wasnt cut but I opted to have it turn down just past the muffler with my Magnaflow,it looks like a donkey wiener hanging down so I am just going to have the fawkers reweld a new end on straight out the muffler with no turn,I am not concerned about water because;

1) there will always be some condensation from the exhaust in the muffler anyways
2)If it corrodes I will just get a new one,they are cheap....well some are :eek:

I cut mine after the turn down. The only problem I have run into was with State Inspection, but I went to a smaller shop and it was fine. I think Toyota just looks for things to nail you on!

we don't have smog testing or vehicle testing, so we get away with it, but i have a couple friends with tacos, 4 and 6 bangers, and they got they bright idea to cut the whole damn muffler off. they have cats only. loud at high rpms, but under about 3500, they actually sound pretty good.

Crap... maybe cut the entire tailpipe off and have a shop weld on a turndown? I don't like the curves of the stock tailpipe... seems like it's more restrictive. Here are a couple pics of my set up....

Thats true about it being less restrictive because the air is getting out quicker...but is it really worth it? does it actually add a deeper sound? i have a 40 series with deltaflow on my 2.7l ..... if i cut it and put a turn down will it help? also will it pass inspection??
