Cutting sway bar?

I heard some guys at work talking about how they cut their friend's sway bar with a hack saw. I'm wondering, what benefit does this give the truck? I am thinking that if the engineers decided that a sway bar was necessary, why cut it? I could not gather from their conversation why this was done and didn't want to be nosey.

Well, rather than cut yours off, you can unbolt it instead. Adds a little more flex offroad, less high speed cornering on road if you're into that.
