well if you want to cut your IFS stuff out and do a solid axle swap you have to put a straight axle under there, the easiest way is to find a dana 44 axle out of a waggy, that is if you want to stay about the stock width, I went with 3/4 ton axles so D60 rear and D44 front, so the front end is much stronger than the IFS stuff and the rear axle is alot stronger than the stock rear axle. just take some time and do some research ask some specifics and you will be a straight axle experttoubabokoomi said:im not very mechanically inclined so could someone help me with what getting dana 60 or 44 do for you exactly...haha...so sad i have to even ask..but i want to know if there are certain things i should do before i get a lift
Ummm... Your truck is currently IFS (Independent Front Suspension). If you get a lift for it right now, it will be an IFS lift (coilovers or spacers). If you decided to go solid axle (it's a-x-l-e, not a-x-e-l) at some point in the future, then you'd be getting rid of all of you IFS stuff, such as your coilovers, upper and lower A-arms, CV's, etc. and replacing all of that with a solid axle (Dana 60 or 44, or some other axle) and leaf springs & shocks or links & coilovers (much larger and different coilovers than what are currently on your truck with the IFS suspension). So yes, if you get it lifted and then decide you want to get solid axles later, it would mess with the lift in that you wouldn't be able to use the lift. The stock axles aren't necessarily weakened by a lift per se. But the stock axles are generally much weaker than those found in a Dana 44 or 60.toubabokoomi said:so its not something i have to do though if i get it lifted..but if i get it lifted then decide i want to get solid axels later would that mess with the lift? and if i do lift it without the solid axels how week would the stock ones be?
I think you need to tell us what you use your truck for before we can offer advice.toubabokoomi said:im not very mechanically inclined so could someone help me with what getting dana 60 or 44 do for you exactly...haha...so sad i have to even ask..but i want to know if there are certain things i should do before i get a lift
Do you have any problems with the 44 front and the iroc's?zszac111 said:well if you want to cut your IFS stuff out and do a solid axle swap you have to put a straight axle under there, the easiest way is to find a dana 44 axle out of a waggy, that is if you want to stay about the stock width, I went with 3/4 ton axles so D60 rear and D44 front, so the front end is much stronger than the IFS stuff and the rear axle is alot stronger than the stock rear axle. just take some time and do some research ask some specifics and you will be a straight axle expert:welder:

Is it a street truck? If so, it would be kinda pointless to spend several grand just to lift it.
Do you wheel the piss out of it and break lots of IFS stuff? Then maybe you want to research doing an axle swap. You're not just limited to having a D44 or D60 though. One of the members here makes some kickass custom Toy axles.
If I had money to burn, I would put a 60 in front along with a coil setup.
