I got the brackets for the rear hybrid bumper and put it on but it doesn't seem to be fitting right, in between where the bottom of the tailgate and the top of the bumper there is about a 1.5-2" gap and it overall just doesn't look right. He didn't send me instructions although i thought it would be self-explanatory. Also where the wrap arounds have the tube that ties it into the frame, there is supposed to be a hole to put a bolt through but my truck doesn't have one there. Anyways it's a 98 reg. cab, no body lift taco. Thanks for your help.

The gap on the top has to be there to get the spare down using the factory extension. Mine was too tight to get untill I did the body lift. There are some pix in my below that show it without the lift installed. That notch has to be able to accept the extension for the crank that lowers the spare. My frame did have holes for the side supports but ot was a really tight fit. I installed it losely then used a hightlift to hold into postion then cranked it all down. It is a PITA but great once tightened and squared up nice. Hope this helps. Matt

How did you get the gap to go from this,

mine looks like the 1st one but a lil bit worse and it is driving me absolutely nuts. Also where'd you get those steps for the bumper, those are awesome.

I just installed mine yesterday and I noticed there was a rather large gap as well. I lossened everything up and then supported the bumper fully up and retightened all the bolt. It still had a rather large gap and there was no way to get it up any higher so I got some rubber materal and cut it to fit from the back side of the bed to behind the bumper. I heard Jason changed the brackets a little to allow for more clearence between the tailgate and the bumper so that the tailgate does not hit the bumper and to allow for the spare to be lowered (as stated before). If you would like I can take any type of pictures you like and send them to you if it will help. My email is [email protected]

Hey yeah i had a guy hold it and i pushed it up as far as it would go but it just looks shitty w/the big gap in it. What kind of rubber material did you use to fill the gap? I'm gonna call jason tommorow and ask him since he didn't send me bolts etc. if he'd make me some some brackets to lift it up to how it should have looked like it was advertised in the pic. Other than that his craftsmanship was outstanding and flawless.

Sorry I was at the shop yesturday but was in and out all day. We just changed braket design again, and you should have the new ones. You should also have gotten hardware? Please call or e-mail me on monday I'll take care of this.

The new brackets are a little lower to make room for the tire release and the tails gate if you drop the tail gate and sit on it you can see the tail gate drop anther .5in.

E-mail me on monday or call and we will get you taken care of!

I see Jason chimed in and I am 110% sure he will take care of you. I know he answered all my questions and was probably the best, no he does have the best customer service of any seller I have ever delt with. Very stand up guy! If you like I can get pictures to you tomorrow as its late now. It looks pretty good with the rubber matting behind the bumper but I'm not sure how it will last. If it doesn't last or handle the test of time I may modify the brackets to move the bumper up a little. However not so far as to cause problems with the tailgate as Jason stated. And yes overall fitment and quality is top notch!

KStacoma-The fist pix is with a 1" Bl and the 2nd is with out. In the 2nd pix I couldn't get the spare out if I had a flat. That's partly why I added the lift. In other words yours looks like mine with a lift even though you don' have a BL. You could always take a dremel with a carbide tip and elongate the holes. Mine have about 1/2" of adjustment but that is about all. I have mine "up" as far as it will go. I have my bed coated so the gap isn't as noticeable since it's black if that matters any. If it were the factoy gray the gap would look bigger. I got the flip-down steps from Jason but they have them at most marine/boating stores. I wanted them welded on but the powdercoating wouldn't allow it. Good luck with the fitting. Well worth it in the end.

if the bumper sat all the way up top how do you expect to get your spare tire out?

I'm going to keep my spare in the bed man, as far as pics, James, if you can get pics of your gap w/the guard in it that'd be awesome. Jason is taking care of me, i sent him pics of the gap, here's what it looks like on mine w/the brackets up as high as possible.

not that you have to do anything more, but I would recomend a spray-in bed liner, for many reasons, but also to do as Matt(Wistaco) said, it will hide the gap right below the tailgatebottom trim.
otherwise, get a rubber piece of heavy mat material and fasten it to the lower gap section
good luck
BTW, the bumper looks awesome!!!!!
