hey Im gonna be going out to Nevada to be wheelin out in the "waste lands" and people say be careful cuz you can blow your engine with the heat (well, not curently, but in the summer). what are some things i can do to help prevent this (low budget, of course)? blasting heater, any special stuff to put in the engine, ect?

go to 30% (or less) antifreeze.. Add a few shots of Water Wetter , as well, when you flush and install new coolant mix.

DOn't forget lots of tools and wheel w/ a friend.
Extra belts would be good idea. Its sure death for the motor if the water pump stops workin( and you keep driving).

You're not gonna blow anything. We ran a bunch of Tacomas through Death Valley when it was 115. Had the AC blowing full blast the whole time.

As long as your truck is running strong (Mine is still at 160K) you will have ZERO overheating issues. Keep an eye on the temp sensor and IF it starts getting high then you blast the heat and ideally shut the motor off and pop the hood.

If anything I'd be more worried about keeping yourself properly hydrated, bring lots to drink.

i live in the desert year round, and offroad all the time. we normally run around 115-120 in the summer and my truck has never had a problem. ac on full blast all the time cause it never seems to get cool enough. you should be fine, just bring lots of water so you dont overheat...

thats good to hear. i just passed 70k on my 99. anybody have thoughts about whether the TRD suspension is good enough?
