Difference between Wheel Sizes and tires

I have a Stock 02 Tacoma Xtra Cab TRD. I am getting ready to get new tires, and would like to also get a set of wheels that I can use now and later on when I get my lift. I've seen 16x8, 16x10. backspacings?
Which size rim and tire can I fit on this truck (Stock)? as i mentioned earlier, need a wheel I could use later on with a lift and bigger tires

15" rims are better off road due to more sidewall and less chance of rolling a bead while aired down. tires are also cheaper for 15" wheels which is nice. stick w/ an 8" wide wheel, you'll have less rubbing and wont wear stuff out as fast. 31x10.5 is about the biggest you can fit stock, i still rub 32x11.5's w/ 2.5" lift.
i run 15" rims on my 04 with no problems and no grinding. mickey thompson classic 2's fit, as well as the wheelers black steelies and a few others
