I went to a salvage yard the other day to get a new hub. They had one truck that seemed to be a 98-00 model. I couldn't really tell cause most of the body was gone. I went to pull the hub, and instead of a snap ring on the end of the cv, there was a brass 12m bolt and washer. I know the ADD cv's have the large bolt on the outer portion, but I'd never seen anything like this on a manual setup. I went ahead and took the hub since nothing really looked different on that end. Has anybody ran into this?

THe CV shafts should have both a groove for the snap ring AND should have a threaded hole to accept the bolt & washer-
I've seen both on various year Tacomas-

Also- I think the Aisn hubs were redesigned after 96/97 -
Even though they are interchangeable- there was a slight difference in the inner hub- the older one consisted of more parts whereas the newer ones are a solid chunk.
I can post some pics of my collection of manula hub & hub parts

I remember a few times when returning cv's the clerk asking me if I had the bolt, but I figured they were just confusing it for an ADD cv. As long as the hub is interchageable, I'm fine. I blew the dial out of my passenger side last Friday. I figured I could just pop the whole hub off and throw a new one on as long as that snap ring wasn't involved in the break.

They had 3. One was burned, one was stripped, then the other one. It looked to have most of the suspension stuff in tact, but other than that it was pretty bare. I didn't really check anything else other than the hubs and cv's. This was the 5th yard I went to, but it's close to an hour away from my house. I can get you the name of the place tomorrow. If they're willing to pull the parts and let you pay over the phone, I could pick them up on my way back from wheeling on sunday. We'd have to work out getting them shipped to you. Send me a pm if there's anything I can do.
