Hey guys, my 02 double cab makes one really loud beeps when i lock and unlock it using the keyless entry. It seriously echoes off the other houses and people down the street look trying to figure out what it was. I know toyota added this to help you find your vehicle in a parking lot, but my remote only works if i'm standing less that 10 feet away from the truck. So there's no point in this beep. Just wondering if any of you know how to disable it or have a link to a write up. Thanks

yes, you just unplug the piezo tweeter. Here's the link with pics

very easy, i did it long ago and don't miss the beep at all.

just unplug the piezo. Look on the right side of your battery and you should see it, mine was red with black foam around it. just unplug it and tape it off with electrical tape to prevent junk from getting in it.

There is another option. If you just want to tone it down instead of making it go away.

Take a 35mm film canister (remember the days when people actually used film in their cameras?) and slip it over the piezo. You can control the volume by adding some extra foam in the bottom of the canister. More foam, less sound. It is a snug enough fit that you don't need to tape it on.

Electrical Tape

You can also just put a little square of electrical tape over the small hole on the end of the piezo. No volume control like the film canister solution, but I found the "muffled but still audible" beep just right.

What Toyota alarm do you have. I did the piezo mod from the customtaco site and then later found instructions on how to disable it in the owners guide. I have the RS3000 - so if you have the same and don't have a book I'll post the instructions or send you a copy. It's just a matter of pressing the right buttons in the right order.
