Well, things have been a bit gloomy around the garage the past several days.

Sunday night my 01 Double Cab was damaged in an accident. My son is okay.
The front end of the Taco is damaged. The body shop said the bolts were ripped out of the front frame. This will be enough to likely put the truck in the totaled category.

I asked them to put the truck on the rack and check the frame to find out if it's bent down or diamonded. It could have life as a trail truck but I want to find out if the frame is tweaked or not before I think about selling it or letting it go to the salvage yard.

Long time members of the club might recall I have the sweet custom leather TRD seats in this truck too.

This truck has been my "go to" workhorse.

I'll have more information early next week. But those seats might come up for sale. Heck, the whole truck might come up for sale to a good home where someone has the time and resources to put together an awesome trail truck.

I'll post up a couple of pictures of the truck and seats later today.

Sorry to hear about the truck but if it's not bad retain salvage fix it and have a paid off truck that oh may be able to throw some aftermarket goodies on with insurance money.

The truck has been paid off for a long time. I don't have the facilities to work on the truck nor the time to.

Well depending on body damage it may be worth grabbing to fix. Some aftermarket bumpers require custom mounting anyways. Just sayin... If you like the truck no need to let it get auctioned off.

Well, here's the situation as of today. The vehicle is an economic total loss. Went over the figures with the insurance company today. A quick search on cars.com tells me I cannot obtain a similar truck for what they would give me (which is a fair value).

I do not have the facilities to fix the truck myself even if I wanted to put on some slick aftermarket goodies (bumper, etc) so I would go back to the body shop for them to repair it and make it road worthy again and may need to add a little out of pocket.

I am considering keeping the vehicle and selling it to another TTORA/COTTORA member.

If I let it go to the salvage yard, I would retain then sell the custom TRD leather bucket seats.

We're going to talk it over within the family. I have to let the insurance company know by Monday what my decision is.

If you're wondering, it's the Tacoma in the photo that shows up on the left of this post.

Insurance needs to give you fair market value for the car. You need to be able to replace the truck with a truck in like condition. Find some nice trucks and say here's what it takes to replace it and if they say they won't pay that say ok fix mine. If the truck is paid off you can even tell them that you need to be able to walk in to the like truck with no money out of pocket or loans.

To retain salvage what they are going to do is ask klode, iaai, and other salvage auctions for buy bids. They are going to charge you the amount or a % of that amount. I will say they bring top dollar and those auctions houses know it. Most cases they will make more selling it to them then you and because they lose money fixing it totaling it is a better move for them.

If it were me id fight tooth and nail for it to pay what you want or if damage is fixable then that higher value and a reasonable price to retain salvage. Fix it or pay someone to make it close and maybe have mods paid for or cash in hand at the end

yep. The left front frame is down and in a bit. The rest of the frame is sound.

I'm doing some homework on what an offroad bumper might cost. Know anyone who does bumpers? I've been out of the loop on those of late.

I'm waiting to hear back from the body shop to discuss details of the repairs. Insurance company will only pay salvage value should I have a future claim after repairing the vehicle this time. That saves the cost of collision and comprehensive insurance though.
