A neighbor asked for motor oil for her 01 4Runner. Her dipstick was bone dry and had burnt oil caked on it, as a daily driver who knows how long it's been that low. It took about 3 quarts to get within the marks. Started the engine, rechecked the level, even with all that fresh oil it's dirty. I can't believe the engine didn't seize. Random but had to share, she should be in a Toyota commercial.

I'm sure it reduced the life of the engine, but who knows when it will give up. If the idiot light didn't come on, then there was at least enough oil to keep the pressure up. Sounds like it only had about 2.5 quarts in the pan.

I filled it from two partial 5 quart containers so it's approximate but I poured at least a quart and it hadn't touched the dipstick so I agree, it probably had about 2.5 quarts. She did mention that the engine had a "rattle" which went away after I filled it. Time will tell what fails first on that engine now and how long it will take. I'll update if I can.
