i have a 1989 toyota 4x4 ext cab and I have check engine codes 71 and 43 71 is for the EGR vavle, I notice at idle my truck is rough and it sounds like im continuously reving my engine or something, I also notice the smell of either Rich or raw fuel vapours

Is anyone aware of a way to clean the EGR valve or something? Anyway to rid of this problem?

The telltale sign of a faulty EGR valve that I know of is poor "hot" starts.

I had the same vehicle you are asking about. Truck would start fine early in the day. But after the 3rd, 4th, 5th time it had more and more trouble getting started. Swapped it out.

Best bet is find a used EGR valve and replace it. $30-$50 tops.

I had a faulty EGR on my truck and I soaked it for a few days in carb cleaner and various other solvents. It never came unstuck. If you can find a used one for cheap it might be a good choice.
