Has anyone else had problems with the rack and pinion binding? I am having contact between the 3/4" bolt that holds the fabtech crossmember and the flange on the rack and pinion. The bushings are sloppy so I am going to replace them but I wanted to see if any one else had/has a similar problem. Here is a picture of where is hits.

Since I got my lift used, I had no instructions when I installed mine. I was'nt sure which direction that bolt was supposed to go, but I was afraid of interference from steering shaft coupler. So on that bolt alone, I threaded it so the head is toward the rack. My CV clears on the otherside just fine.

Here is another picture, I am going to cut the end of the bolt off and replace the steering rack bushings and it should fix the problem.

I have mine in the same way (see above), but it looks like I have more clearance than yours. Do you have the rack spacer installed on the large rack bolt? Also, I know I have a body lift spacer in mine, but that should not change the location any. That's wierd on yours! Mine looks like the bolt is below the steering coupler also, so if it were closer it would just be underneath the coupler.Huh???
I would definately replace your rack bushings if you have play in the rack though.

Now that I have seen your other post with the bent strut bar, I'm wondering if your stock A-Arm pockets or your Fabtech cross members are bent? If the whole setup moved that far back, that would change the clearance on the bolt and steering coupler for sure.
Let me know what you come up with for a stronger strut bar. I'm sure those are light duty and designed to bend before the transfer case x member does. But I also think they are weaker than they need to be.

my bolt is out like that and i have a lot of clearance from the r and p. I don't know i think something must be out of wack or something for that to happen. RED

Here is a crappy video where you can see that when you turn the wheel to the left, the rack flexs towards the crossmember and hits the bolt. When I looked at the rack, it looks like one of the spacers is not the correct length. Could someone that has the fabtech lift measure the round spacer? The drivers side of the rack is closer to the crossmember then the passenger and it looks like the round spacer is too short.

ok I just checked, and I'm pretty damn sure its 3/4". It's a lil iffy cause even though i switched to poly rack bushings, when you use the supplied washer from the bushing kit then torque it down, man its tight as hell. That bushing has actually cracked and the washer backed by that round spacer receeded into the bushing a little. So getting a good measurement was a little squirrely.

I also put my bolt the other way to avoid clearance issues. Are wanting length or diameter on the round spacer? I can measure mine for you in a little bit if you need it.
Can you measure the lenght. Attached are pictures of what my rack looks like and you can see that it is on a angle. Does your look like this?

I dont have an exact measurement but I do know that my rack is angles in the same manner as yours. If it moving when turning, I would think that your rack bushings are shot or the bolts are loose. I would try tigthening the bolts ore replacing the bushings. If it is moving when you turn it may also be moving while you drive. You could also just turn the bolt in the other direction.

It does not make sense that they would have one side closer then the other. I need to replace the bushing

I looked at mine just a few minutes ago, and it looks exactly like yours does. While I was looking, I realized how different the angles on the TRE's are with the tires straight. I wonder why FT would do this...?
I am going to call them and find out
