Im looking into getting a flowmaster system, and i guess there are more than one thing you can get from flowmaster for the exast. So my question is what would i need that would not be cosmetic but acctually for power/sound, and should i even get it for off roading or is it likely ill beat the crap out of it and kick my self in the face. :banghead:

I've never heard one on a 3.4L or any V6 but I think a FM 30 series would sound very deep and throaty. The 30 series is a high volume muffler which gives it a deeper sound. I had one on my 4.0 Jeep and it sounded like a big V8 with no rhasssp at all.

The Magnaflow seems to be pretty popular on this board. I got a Gibson cat-back because I read of some good results, and I saved like 80 bucks from retail. I like the sound. One of my fellow off-roading friends says it sounds awesome. I never hear it from outside though...usually driving, haha. Unless my friends racing (ok, not -racing-)through a schoolparking lot gettin me a flat tire!

Another friend of mine has a flow (dont know which muffler) on his piece 89 or 87 camaro V6 (2.9, right) and it is ANNOYING! Has the exhaust rythm of a high idling V8 with a annoying high pitch tone to it.

i got a Borla on mine. i didnt want anything loud, i wanted it more for the power/MPG gains. after having V8s with FMs, i wanted something a little more peaceful already. your on the winward side too, just go down to Exhaust Systems in Kailua and ask for Robert. he has done the exhaust on all my trucks. tell him what you want out of it and he will tell you whats gonna work best for you. hes a really good guy, he'll hook you up. whatever you do, dont go to RAD Motorsports or Barrs

Magnaflow has been getting a better repore around here then Flowmaster. Many people like the sound of their mufflers over the typical FM40 or FM50 models. Something to consider.
I'd vote for the Magnaflow. Gotta ask the questions... how loud do you want? My 18" sounds louder, deeper, and overall better than stock but isn't obnoxious. I hear the Flow's are LOUD. I also heard a reputable person on the Yotatech forum say that Magnaflow and Borla's are free flow mufflers while Flowmasters aren't truly free flow. I'm not stating this... just mentioning what I heard. I guess that would mean the Magnaflows give better performance as well.

I love my Magnaflow. It sounds throaty in a good way (not ricey at all). I can't tell you the performance increase as I installed the Deckplate/Amsoil/Airaid MIT and the Magnaflow all within a week. I have noticed better throttle response and an increase in power (has more kick). I'm sure the Magnaflow helped.

I just put my cat-back from MagnaFlow on yesterday and love it!! The only problem I ran into was the tailpipe section, Performance Products sent me the one for the S-runner... one number off in the part number. They were very nice when I called and offered me to send it back and get a replacement system... I didn't have the time to do all that, so I fixed it myself... Its on their clearance/closeout page for $299 now, or at least it was last week.

I just took the stock bracket and did a little fabrication on it and bolted it right up, looks good to me. Works great.

Its got a nice rumble to it, nothing obnoxious, very nice when accelerating and then evens out to be a nice quiet hum at cruising speeds, even with the windows down. Very quiet in the cab.

Yeah I went with the flowmaster original 40 series too. It sounded a little tinny at first but sounds ncie and deep now. :)
Any muffler will have a "burn in" period. Packed mufflers like magnflows will have to burn the packing material, and put a layer of soot over it to sound it's best (just takes a couple of days. Chambered mufflers, like flowmaster, just need a layer of soot on them to take the tinny sound away.

Haha that makes sense. When I put my gibson on I heard a slight rattle sound as my friend drove by in my truck. I was just thinkin, 'fuck...' but I dealt with it at the moment and cant say I've heard it sense.

Oh yeah, that was the morning after I put it on. Had about 8 miles on it.
