hey everybody i got a problem, i have the fox shox coilover setup on my p/u and i have a ripped schrader valve, do you think the shock just needs to be rebuilt or should i just try and recharge it with nitrogen, plus im having trouble finding a place to rebuild the shock if i have to here. help greatly appreciated

The nitrogen acts as a lubricant, so if it all leaked out and you've been driving on it the shock is probably shot and will need to be rebuilt, Ihad the same problem
just talked to a guy in az at raceshock, his name was lee, he told me that this shock is a divided piston shock therefore the oil and gas(nitrogen) are independent of one another for the sole reason of shearing a schrader, so he told me that if i can get a schrader valve and just have it recharged i would be fine, which is awesome if it true :D

Nitrogen gas is very dry by nature; try to use it as a lubricant in the bedroom one night, then get back to us.... As long as the nitrogen chamber is CLEAN, it can be repaired and recharged, no problem.

That was what a guy who rides four wheelers told me a couple years ago when I had that problem and i had mine rebuilt. I figuered it made some sense because i drove on it for awhile and my shock was toast (klunking, frontend dipping like a boat) sorry about the misinformation. As far as nitrogen in the bedroom hold on,i'll be right back.

It's all good... What happens is the shaft will travel farther down into the shock body, and start smacking into things where it shouldn't really be. The nitrogen is behind a 'gate' at the lower portion of the shock body, and it squishes under compression, but keeps things pessured into the right spot. Nitrogen is used because it tends to stay dry.... no rusting, and because it runs much cooler than compressed air. That's what we're here for, to gather info, and accidentally spread misinformation. Watch, I'll put my foot in my mouth before the month is up, if things go as planned!!!!

You are right there with him on the bad info..

1. The shrader valve can be replaced and recharge the shock for it to be right again

however the shock will not travel further with the dividing piston not having nitrogen, infact if the shock rod contacts anything inside the shock with nitrogen then something is wrong...

Nitrogen is used not because its cooler, but because its alot more stable at operating temps than co2 and air.... it wont expand/collapse as much as the other two.. this is what makes nitrogen so desireable.

Ahhh much better wording to get across what I was trying to say. The blown shock I had on my Chevy last month had the piston actually hit something/ the dividing piston. It was recently rebuilt, and it surprised me, as this hadn't happened before. Dou you think someone made a mistake when rebuilding it?? I don't have any travel issues with the shock; it has room top& bottom for travel. It either went too far, or something must have been installed incorrectly....correct??? Thanks for the info!

i think this thread has the most New Mexicans per capita that i have ever seen...
OBVIOUSLY, you haven't seen any threads from Santa Ana, Ca.....oops. Wrong "new" Mexicans. I think it's nice to see Tacomas so well represented across the whole planet. Makes me feel like I will find some parts anywhere, and some folks who know how to fix them. Kinda like the old Chevy's of the 70-86 class.

fabtechs directions are wrong put schrader toward engine

get a hold of mirage who rebuilds for fox via fabtech their really nice he sent me two for free and confirmed fabtechs goof up while I was on the phone screaming in a conference call with norcal rep for 4 wheel parts (boycott them) except they own alot of 4wd related companies.
