No, the 4Runner and Pickup don't have that.
Paul, the heat shouldn't be an issue. I used quick disconnect fittings with the lines Home Depot sells for refrigerator icemakers (hard opaque plastic) ending at another quick disco into the airbox. I actually ran all my breathers to there, You'll be fine...

Not sure about the newer 4Runners but the 2nd gen like Paul's don't. He found out that the same union that works for the Tacoma rear works for the front as well as the rear on his 4Runner.

after i read this i went to check out my axles and see if they had this mod done to them and they both have a cap over the tip of the breather. im guessing this is so water dont get in it but is still should be able to breath right. do i need to do the breather mod for my axles or is there anything wrong with having them capped off

the "cap" is what is from the factory it is part of what people remove to do the actual diff breather mod, those caps will work untill you go in about 18 inches of water or so.

when i did my diff breather i actually did it a little diffrant than most people do. if anyone is interested i can get some pictures.

i first removed the top cap of the stock diff breather (don't have to pay for extra fittings that most people buy) and found tube that fit over i think it was about 3/8" hose irrigation hose i got it from home depot i attached that to the stock breather(minus the cap) with a hose clamp

i ran the hose from the rear along the frame rail/fuel lines/what ever i could afix it to and conected the 2 around the firewall with a t-fitting (muti size from autozone) and ran a hose off the 3rd part to the top of my fire wall and put a small "ricer" valve cover breather filter on top.

a point that some one may bring up is the hose. it is a plastic like hose that is used for irrigation i was worried about petrolum gear oli eating through it but after a year it is still 100% fine plus the oil rarely actually is in the hose maybe a splash now and then or vapors but it is not always carried in there

if anyone see's a problem with the way i did this let me know as i can not see anything wrong besides it is some what over kill on the size of tube and the way i ran but i also see it as 1 less thing that i have to worry about.

4crawler recommends putting the rear diff breather inside the taillight housing. I would NOT recommend this unless you have a check valve. I can't count how many times my rear end has been completely submerged

like i said i have had absolutly no problem with mine there is a "groove" that is part of what is supposed to hold the cap on that the hose clamp is clamped into it works perfectly for me i can see the point where it may not be long enough but for me i say it is good. i may chang in the future but see no need to at this point

all i do is pull the cap off and jam an old piece of air hose on it with a hose clamp. after 3 years of wheelin ive never had a problem with it but i do check it often.

Just thought I'd add my experience doing this today. No matter how hard I tried, I could not get a 1/8" thread into the diff. I spent a good 2 hours at least to no avail. Ended up pulling the cap off the end of the stock breather and jamming a hose over it. I'll probably revisit it later if I can find a proper fitting.

10mm x .10 thread...same as the rear diff breather fitting.
