Did it sunday
works perfectly but now I have to remember to turn thing s off that are plugged in
Thanks
I've always wanted to do that
I went one step further, and added a switch in the circuit. I can use that to turn the mod on or off.

My issue is that I have two or three GPS units I use regularly, and its a pain to turn them on and off, and reset the GOTO's anytime I have to leave the truck off for short periods of time.

But, then again, i have a radar detector and other stuff plugged in, and rather than turning everything off when I leave the truck, I can just switch the all-time power mod off with the one additional switch.

I found a nice flush mount, rocker with an LED at Radio Shack that i mounted in my empty clock face. (Jeez, the damn clocks are EXPENSIVE!... :( )

I figure the LED will help me remember to turn it off, and if i dont use it alot, will help remember WHICH WAY is on or off... :D

Heres a couple pics of it:

I have a quick question! If I do this mod will I loose power each time I start my truck when the key is in the accessory position?

No. If you do the mod, you will have outlet power regardless of the key position. I have power even when cranking the engine.

I did this mod when I first got my truck but rather than use the wiring like in the pics, I used these RadioShack #64-3064 instead. The top on in the picture if bent will slide perfectly in the jack, reinstall the fuse box cover an dyou're done. I think I put some heat shrink tubing around the middle to keep anything from shorting out on it if it fell in there, but some electrical tape would work just as well.

Your mileage may vary

what gauge wire should i use to bridge this.
thanks
12 guage is more than heavy enough to tackle this job. At that short length 12 guage will handle up to about 30 amps and I think the fuse on the power plugs is 15 amps if I remember correctly.

Did this the other night since my fuse for these outlets blew due to a POS cell charger.

Took me 3.2169 minutes and other than forgetting to turn off the XM now, I love it.
