That's pretty much it. Do I have to have the master install kit to get new gears installed on my 04 Tacoma? Is it just to replace worn parts? I only have about 30k miles on it.
Back story if anyone cares: I ordered a master install kit last week from Performance Off Road Center and they said I would get it this week. They charged my card last Thursday and I called today and they said it hadn't shippped, no call or email or anything. They said they could send it out today but that won't do me any good. Good prices, bad service. I'm never shopping there again. I had scheduled a shop to do the work tomorrow so now if it's needed I'm screwed.

You don't necessarily need the master install kit, but there are a few parts that are required to do the job. Usually the bare minimum is front and rear pinion bearing, crush sleeve, oil seal and pinion nut. The rest of the stuff in the master kit is the carrier bearings and stuff like that. You could get by with a mini install kit, but anything less will hold you up.

Many people on Pirate and here swear by PORC. Bummer to hear your dealings went bad with them.

I talked to the shop this morning and they said they can get the parts from a neighboring shop so it should be fine. Yeah I thought PORC was supposed to be great and the guy I initially talked to (Alex) seemed helpful but that's ridiculous to not even call when I stressed to him on the phone that I needed it today. I generally can't afford to take time off to get this stuff done and then have to reschedule so I gues I'll pay more to know I will get parts on time.
