Can anyone give me the skinny on Grand Junction?

I just found out I might have an opportunity for a promotion at work but it would require moving to Grand Junction.

I've been reading up on it a bit, and it seems like home prices are still ridiculously high, and that crime has risen pretty steadily the past few years, but the outdoor activities (I'm a hiker/mt biker) are worth it.

I'll be moving out there from Southern Oregon and, while I love it out here, I'm tired of two 3 month allergy seasons and all the hippies.

..... and HOT HOT HOT... like, ride your bike before 10 or after 5, any other time would suck.

but.... plenty of great riding - check out fruita for some "fruit-loops", theres BLM and some extreme wheeling available too.

But, too hot for me and not close enough to the snowy mountains.

Thanks for the input folks...the job fell through (well, they wouldn't pay to relocate me) so it's not gonna happen.
