Ok I am debating on doing the grey wire mod, but I sometimes loan out my truck, and don't want anybody who is using it to accidently hit the rear locker while they are driving because of the damage it would cause. My question is could I just use one of those connectors that clips onto wires, and clip it onto the grey wire, and run it to a switch, and then from the switch to the ground, so when the switch is off, it will be hooked up to whatever its normally hooked to, but then when I switch on the switch(not the locker switch) its then run to the ground. My question is by doing this, it will be connected to the ground, and whatever else it was origionall hooked to. will this cause a problem? What is the grey wire originally connected to? some kind of mechanism that grounds it when you are in 4X4 low?

Well, what do you mean damage that it would cause. The locker wont just engage as soon as you hit the switch. If you hit the locker switch while driving, it will not engage it till it hits a speed (weather stoped ot moving) that it feels it can engage it at. I havn't really had it engage on me unless im stoped or just bearly moving straight forward. I have had it disengage (I hit the switch to disengage while slowing down to a light) and it actually disengaged while I was downshifting. It's not stupid like some of us are.

I think you're over acting dude. Nobody is going to hit the switch. "Hey... what the hell is this. (push)." Just do it. It's a great mod. Probably the best mod for the Tacoma. Cost nothing to do.

Just tell anyone you loan your truck too not to mess with the locker. If they are aware of it I doubt they would accidently engage it. The grey wire mod is great. I don't understand why Toyota even tried to limit the e-locker to low in the 4x4 models, when the trd prerunners have the locker too.

yes you can make a switch off of the grey wire. It will cause no harm, it will just be an extra switch someone will screw with.

The locker won't engage when you're going over 5 mph. But it's still not good for it to be locked up on pavement. I share your concerns, and will be putting a switch on mine as well. I just like to be able to turn off overrides. But putting a switch in won't adversely affect anything if you wire it up right.

Thanks guys, I think I am going to try the wire mod without the switch, if for some reason i feel its engaging when it shouldn't I will prolly add a switch.
