I noticed today as i was wheeling that there is now a grinding noise coming from my front axle. It only does it when the hubs are locked, and it does it in 2 and 4 wheel drive. I've got open diffs and the 4wheel drive still works. Its on a 88 SASed 4Runner with 37s, and a 84 front axle, with stock axles and birfs.

Busted axle? or is there just more shit inside? Its kind of a metal grinding/sqeaking noise.

Any suggestions? Thanks

I would tear the front end down. You may have busted a something in your diff or taken out a birf. You could have also taken out a hub gear.

Drain the diff fluid, if there is metal in it.. time for some new parts!
